is anyone running a 255 40- up front on their 70-72 skylark with a 2" drop?
    clearance issues or mods required?
    Thanks Gord

    Should fit fine

That tire is 26" in diameter

I have 255/60 15 which is 27" in diameter and I have slight rubbing under certain situations on the front of the fender
Flat road for me is no problem.
I may go back to a 245 for the front.

Hey Gord.. I do believe we had those all the way around on this one.. except with a 16 inch rim.. and a tall spindle conversion, which resulted in a 1" drop if I recall correctly.. no problem.

hey thanks Jim, it looks like the same global west and disc brake conversion i have as well. Do you recall the offset on the fronts? To be on the safe side I think i will get some inexpensive rims so i can shim them in or out before i order rims with custom offset?

Car is coming along nicely, fired the engine a few times to get the juices flowing, mine and the engines......hoping for a spring reveal!

I don't recall the offset Gord. I tried to look it up in my records, but the wheels were supplied to me by the customer.

Around 4.75 to 5" if I recall correctly.. wheels were 16x8..

Triple check about the front disc conversion. Most disc conversions will be wider than the factory discs, and will push the tire out further.

Also, a tall spindle will usually have MORE clearance, because at full bump travel, the top of the tire will tilt in a bit (negative camber) as opposed to the standard spindles tilting OUT at the top and letting the tire hit the outboard bolts of the inner fender.

    Thanks everyone...
i bite the bullet and ordered up the wheels for the four corners..went with the US Mag 2 piece soft lip...6-1/4 bs for the 255-40 on 18X9 for the front and 6-1/4 bs on the rear for the 295-35 on 18x10. Figured i would error on the safe side and shim out if needed, probably won't be much of a lip on the wheel but I wanted to leave the sheet metal alone..In 4 weeks should know if they fit...fingers crossed:TU:
    thanks again..Gord

    Recieved my wheels and tires:
    255-40-18 continental on 18X9 US mags-61/4 bs
    295-35-18 continental on 18X10 Us mags-61/4 bs

now if i could just get my car back from the body shop, i would try em on for size!

0723B0BF-0417-4187-A9EE-0EBC33BED811.jpeg A few years late but here they are on the car. I could have gone with less back spacing on the front, probably 1/2”+ less. There is-no lip to speak of on the fronts due to all the backspace and shimmed them out 1/4” or so. Lots of room on the back and didn’t roll the lips, left them as factory.

Phoenix, Arizona. Very few frost heaves, fairly smooth roads there.
