Hey guys and gals. New to this site I think. Been around a few was told this one is one of the best. Today my 82 year old dad and I sat in the shop looking at the 1971 Riv he bought when I was 16 years old. It's dark green with a dark green interior and we have every original part. Unfortunately its is far from the condition is was when he bought it. Although now safely stored in a conditioned shop on stands we have a long way to go. Thankfully the engine still turns over by hand, surely the tranny needs rebuilding. Worst part about it is that it sat outside in the weather for 15 years with a rear window that leaked around the trim. (the sill sheet metal will have to build by hand) It rotted out the rear floor boards and the trunk pan and some of the frame too. I know already that the '73 I found for 200 bucks won't help as a donor car so I think we are going to replace all the floor panels from OPG, then pull the body off the frame. Thats the only way I see us fixing the frame right. i remember riding in this car and it was one cool ride and I am sure we will turn as many heads in this once repaired as we do in the '68 Corvair ragtop he and I restored 14 years ago. Once i get things cleaned up around it I will take and post some pics as we plan on building a photo album of the progress. Seems folks like to see that kind of stuff.
My dad is 82 so I hope to see him drive this before he can not drive. We are no top notch shop, just my dad and me and maybe my son working with all the tools we have that are available. Dad has a lot of what we need.
Any links and leads anyone can send my way would be great! (Dad wants to leave it 100% stock, I would like to sneak a little extra punch under the original valve covers and oil pan.
