    I have a close friend getting married. His friend lent a nice Buick for the ride to the ceremony. I'll have my 64 there but this beautiful ride was too good to not show off...he said he's selling next week for $8500....good price?

    A nice car. I think that if he can get $8,500 for it, he and Jason Cook should go into business together.

    Well I'm not sure what that means, but I think the car is worth around $8500. I have nothing invested or to gain, just think it's a nice looking car!

    Interesting enough, the wedding party "lost," the keys so we all had to walk the 300 yards to the ceremony. My wife drove the ladies so that was nice, but I'm upset the old 88 special had to sit alone!! :)

    Yes, it's a very pretty car, but $8500 might be a bit rich, and here's why;
    -it's the entry level Buick; small engine, small body, no extra trim. Basic model. They made oodles of these things and they're still not rare. If I'm not mistaken 55 was a high volume year.
    -it has 4 doors, and is a sedan, not a 4 door hardtop, a 4 door hardtop Century or Roadmaster has better lines, and would be collectible.
    -not knowing what it has for options, I'd probably say it's probably pretty standard in that it probably only has a radio as an option. Maybe power steering and brakes, but no A/C, power windows, seat or anything else.
    -it has visible bodywork and paint flaws, for a car like that to garner $8500 it would have to be perfect. This one looks like a nice driver.

    If the underneath presents as nicely as the top does, and if it is mechanically sound and a good driver, then he could bag $8500 if he found a buyer who couldn't live without it. But those guys are few and far between, and getting scarcer as that generation dies off. What you get nowadays is more and more of them are speculators who think just because it's old it has to be worth a lot more than what it is being offered for and they're the guys who can flip it. It is a very nice car and would be something to be proud of; - there's nothing wrong with the car, except that they are not the most collectible version of the marque offered in that year. As I said, a Roadmaster or a well equipped Century would bag a lot more and be an easier sale.

    Marc - 1955 was Buick's best sales year from the start of production until 1973. In 1955 Buick sold 738,814 units, moving it past Plymouth into the number three US cars in sales. You are correct - they are not rare.
