    This is the plate that is where the steering column goes through the firewall. The manual trans A bodies (Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass/ 442) use the same piece.
    The shiney piece on the right is the reproduced boot retainer. You would have to cut your own hole into that steering column baseplate

    ID'ing a Muncie/ making sense of date codes. In this pic, I am pointing to the location of the build date code and VIN stamping location. Note it is the passenger side of the trans close to where the tailshaft bolts to the main case.

    2010 update: Pulled the M-21 out of a 69 4 speed and found the VIN stamp on the top pad of the trans. I have attached a pic of the location. Also, I have seen several threads where there was NO VIN STAMP AT ALL!!!!

    Here is a sample of the date code stamp. This trans is stamped P9S29B
    let's break this down (from http://www.gearzone.net/muncie2.htm)

    P= Muncie Plant
    9= model year = 1969 (found on Muncies from 1967 and up)
    S= month (November) (A= January, T- December)
    29= day of the month
    B= Transmission letter code (found on 1969-1974 Muncies)
    A=M-20 B= M-21 C= M-22

    So, if we had a trans w/ P0A27C= M-22 trans built January 27, 1970 :TU:

    'So, what if these numbers are filed off?'- You can also use the number stamped on the passenger side of the main housing to get an idea of the year of your trans.
    ***Please note: the ideal way is to pop the side cover off to look at the gears, angle of the gears, etc. This was meant to be a QUICK point of reference :Dou: ***
    In this pic, the # 3925660 can be seen. This trans would be from a 1968-1970 Muncie (http://www.gearzone.net/muncie2.htm), but it could be any of the three M-20, 21 or 22...

    Is anyone reproing the tach for the consolette or the buick emblem for the tach delete consolette?

    Eddie- no. You can try and find a 1965 Rivi full length console (?) with the tach.. I think it'll work. I am not sure if that is the correct year/ model...

    The older style tach guts will fit in a 68-72 four speed consolette, but not without modifcations. There is a couple of indents in the tach cup that do not line up and will have to be drilled. Drilling into the edge of the unreplaceable plastic tach face, I did not have the guts, sold the tach.
