Has 1 year old electronics, NAPA coil and cap. Jim Weise set this up for me, but I don't know if it is still holding it's setup or not. Probably just needs to be recurved or have the advance limited. Thr Riv started running funny when I pulled the motor, and the symptoms were weirdly like a timing problem. I think I have the 2 pigtails for the tach and batt around here somewhere.
Well, don't get too giddy. After all, it IS an OEM GM HEI unit. Not the best engineered distributor for performance. It's fine, however, for a daily driver that doesn't need perfect spark between 4000 and 6000 RPM. I'll let everyone know if the line dwindles from where it is now. HAve a couple of inquiries. If they pass I'll let you all know.
Yes I did Matt, and just a minute ago the HEI kicked down to you. You are next in line as far as "date contacting" me goes. Yours if you want it. 2 rotors and 2 caps. 1 NAPA "good" coil (for epoxy that ain't saying much). I have the batt+ pigtail, but not the tach one (I still can't believe I can't find that thing). The tach and batt+ pigtails are the same, except that the tach one has no "key" molded into it. So I just filed it off of a batt+ pigtail so it fits. I understand the tach pigtails aren't available. Also, the tach female connector in the cap has a "key" molded into it that prevents a batt+ pigtail that has had the key filed off of it from fitting. So I removed that key from both of the caps I have. Took a lot of patience, but it makes it nice to use 2 clip-on pigtails for the tach and batt+. The pigtails are available at NAPA for like $5. They ordered it - next day.
Matt, went out today USPS 1st class. Should be there in about a month. C'mon Claven, pony up and deliver my goods!
Matt, If the engine starts running "weird" like yardley said, pull it out and check the magnetic pick up coil. My was breaking up at 2300-2800, and wouldn't pull after that. Turned out that the tiny wires from that part had cracked and the vaccuum advance would pull the wires causing a short. Jim
Jim, Thanks for the heads-up on the distributor. I'm probably going to use this unit as a core and replace everything and than have it "curved" at a dist. shop close to me. Yardley, Thanks very much for the distributor. I'll send you a few for shipping. Matt
