I just got back from a 2 week trip (7,253 Km's or 4,500 miles) from Montreal to Alberta and back. The goal, to remove the complete interior from my parts 68 Wildcat Custom Sport and other valuable bits. I was chased by wasps and rolling around in mouse poop and piss for the better part of the day, stripping the car to the bones. Threw out my bad left shoulder trying to dislodge the rear seat bottom and bleeding from numerous cuts , I wouldn't have it any other way. I now have a perfect dash top in black and perfect rear seats. Side and door panels need minor attention and mice ate the front panel of the 5 piece headliner by the visors, but left the rest intact. Does life get any better than that? I don't think so.
Been there, done that. I've spent my vacation traveling half way across the country to disassemble an old wreck and carry the parts home. Now my wife asks me before we take a vacation if involves any junkyards. Frankly, I prefer that to Disney World, but she don't see it that way.
My wife flew out to visit some family nearby in Saskatchewan, but drove back with me in our 2015 Chrysler van with just 61 km (40 something thousand miles) on the clock and lost coolant on the highway due to a rusted away lower rad hose clamp. Love living in the salt belt! Lost 2 days as the garages were closed on a sunday. Here's pics of what I removed from the car and a question. The tilt steering column works great, but the flasher arm is hanging like a limp noodle. Will it be easier to swap the flasher assy from the non tilt column (in the car now) and will it fit? I'm thinking I should install the parts car tilt column as is broken as it will be solid to work on and not flopping around on the bench when I replace the flasher switch. I don't have a steering wheel puller, so I just go ape on the wheel and get it off that way. I wouldn't be able to do that without installing the column.
I have exact same interior, it was filthy and owned by a smoker. Based on advice from an upholstery guy, I used a nice soft bristle brush, toothbrush & microfiber cloth with a dilution of Simple Green. Rinsed everything multiple times with a big sponge and some clean microfiber cloths. I was stunned how nicely it all cleaned up. Sealed it with McGuire's satin. Would love to have those door cards!! :_) And go buy some mechanics gloves for these kinds of jobs... much easier on your hands!
Good advice! I'm really looking forward to cleaning it all up. I even scored 3 out of 4 trunk cardboard liners, But I'm missing the pass hinge cover. All are pretty shot, but excellent for patterns. I've used Mechanics gloves for years being in the trade (ret). found the build sheet on the back seat, so hope the one in my car is also there when I get around to the swap. I just spent 3 hours vacuuming, washing and detailing my van. You can hardly smell the mouse turds anymore.
I hope it's in the seat as I had my gas tank cleaned and a new neck grafted on. If it was there, It's gone now.
