Hi Guys, I've decided to go a different route with my car and have a remanufactured 700R4 with approx. 1/2 km driving distance, the adapter to mate it to a 64-66 401 or 425 with TV cable. I am asking $575 US for the adapter kit and $700 US for the transmission. everything is in new condition.
Ill say in advance that I'm not inquiring about buying your transmission... BUT, Id like to know which route you're ultimately going as I am EYEballs deep in choices and paths I can take to finish my rebuild / custom. Im looking mainly at the 4L80e for strength, or 4L65e/4L70e using Russ Martins bell housing ( I like their lower gearing better)... Being that I like the gears in the 4L6Xe series better than the 4L80e, and TCI makes a gear-set that seems VERY close to the 4l6x series... Lower gears in a seemingly stronger transmission appears to make more sense. NOT meaning to hi-jack this thread, just looking for your input, or someone elses! Maybe you're opting for the 4L80e option! Good luck w your sale, sir!
im using a 200-4r on mine for the better gearing than both. I considered a 6l80e but I just don't want to spend that kind of money. I wish this adapter would fit my block but I have a 62 engine and I know I need more parts than whats there.
What kinda gearing are we talking? 4L60e Gear Ratios: 1st: 3.06, 2nd: 1.62 3rd: 1.00 4th: 0.70 4L80e Gear Ratios: 1st: 2.48 2nd: 1.48 3rd: 1.00 4th: .75 4L80e with TCI Low Gearset: 1st: 2.97 2nd:1.57 3rd: 1.00 4th: .75 The TCI gearset for the 4L80e is what I have my eyes on... I MAY just start a new thread...
1ST : 274 2ND: 157 3RD: 100 4TH: 067 more od and better spread plus no pcm and is the size of th350. built ones are very strong.
A note. Long ago I tried 2.75 and 3.0:1 low gear sets in my TH400. After substantial road miles (no racing) they caused failures; I no longer use them. The 4L80E uses the same ratios, and likely the same low gear sets (with similar failure modes). Bruce Roe
If that was a Brendtsen's setup it is great, but I couldn't deal with the 10 lb steel crankshaft spacer. I had Rob Gerouix at Precision Billet Design make me a spacer out of a grade of Aluminum that he recommended. 3 lbs; money well spent. I hate unnecessary weight.
aaaannnnddd expensive to ship when reselling it ;-) now I'm waiting for my new bell housing to use a 4L60E
