    Torque breaks parts

    Your combo sounds strong.

    So bullet proof the rear.

$1000 will not get it done.

Call strange or moser or another manufacturer.

    Do it once.

    Has 273 Posi carrier?
That is a 2 series carrier.
Will need a more performance oriented gear selection like 355 or 373
Which uses a different carrier in rear.
This is what I think with limited info here.

    Yes, 12 bolt Chevy Passenger carrier breaks, 2.76 & down / 3.07 to 3.90 / 4.10 & up.

He mentioned a driver vehicle. 373 might be a little steep there. I have 331 with 27” tires, th400, 12 bolt Chevy, and running 3,200 at 70mph. Kind of wish I could try a 342.

Yeah I've been trying to decide whether to put 323s or 342s in it.

I have an almost stock 455 in my car. The 331 is decent, much better than the 273. But I just drove around town and a little bit of highway. Kind of wish I went with 342. Somewhere there’s an online calculator to figure out RPMs at a certain speed. That might help you.

I wonder what axles are in there.

336/tire height X rear gear X MPH = RPM (without converter slip)

    336/26 X 3.31 X 70 = 2883 RPM

Add 200 RPM for converter slip.

No way in hell I'd give 1k for a core,...that's essentially what your buying, why not just do a 8.5

Price for a built 8.5 that i have found anywhere is still way more than what i will pay to build the 12 bolt. Plus 12 bolt cores are selling for way more than that all day long on ebay.

Haven't been able to find any 8.5 cores anywhere in my area

    Got some good advice here.
I have 342. Car runs good.
373 is nice but pushing it on highway unless you have 28” tires which I have.
It’s all about getting the car moving.
