Good to know!! The seller claims they were done by APM Custom Engines in Morgan Hill, CA 2 years ago but doesn't have any receipts . . . I guess calling them to see if they have records might be worth a try but sounds like a long shot. Do you think it's safer getting my heads done? If I could eyeball the head work then I could make the call but I'd have no idea if the work was good or not in person.
Having your own heads done the way you want with big valves, springs, guides, port work, etc. will give you exactly what you want. Since you already have 70s sitting around doing nothing. Good learning experience for you also.
Got it! So I will buy valves and springs before I drop off the heads. Is it worth the $225 and maybe more money in machining to use TA's stage 1 valves? Or should I go for the Rockauto $100 stock size ones? Not planning on any porting.
These are the TA valves I'm referring to: http://www.taperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=TA_1432A Are these what you mean by bigger flat valves? The TA intake valves are 1.920" instead of the stock 1.875", so would they require a lot more machining than using stock sized valves? If I'm looking for a "standard" head rebuild, is this the way most folks go?
It says on his website that he is retired . . . is that not true? I would love to send my heads to someone like Mike, Jim Weise, or even TA Performance but I'd probably end up paying half of the machining costs for just the shipping! All these guys are far away from me
Derek and Henry did a nice work on my heads. They are in Michigan. Heres the cut for bigger valve seat and cut into port . . A light blend should provide decent gains. See the one set is cone like and the other are flat. Henry said the flat valves flowed better. And can take more tempature, which you will have under boost. im sure a local shop can do similar cut for valves. Yes its alittle more money. As its alittle more time and work.
