After many years of running a bunch of nitrous thru my Tomahawk 475ci BBB, an opportunity arose, and I jumped on it!! I class race x275, and usually I’m car 30 in the 32 car field.. My best single stage Nitrous pass, 1/8th, has been a 5.50 @127, with a 1.22 6o ft, on the rear tires, pretty fast, but not fast enough to be competitive... With this “opportunity” I decided to make some changes, everybody I know was going to turbocharging, almost went there, but I’m not smart enough to stage those things.... I decided to go Procharged. I know a few in the Buick Community have run belt driven Vortec, and Procharger’s and made good power. My buddy has a stupid fast 69 Camaro , BBC with a crank driven F3, he says “belts fly off, go crank drive”.... So I started researching, and found Know One has done a crank driven Procharged Buick..... Procharger was excited to hear about my build, and never heard of anyone doing this, crank drive vendors said the same thing!! The Supercharger Store in Arizona “thought” they did one, but just weren’t sure... Come to find out Ken Betts & John Everett had “attempted” a build like this, but never finished it... Well, I’m ready to show off my stuff!!! It’s about to get put back between the frame rails of the “Bad Buick” ‘65 Skylark Convertible.. I still need to wire up Holley dominator, and coil near plug, injectors, and a bunch of sensors... I’m pretty pleased with everything so far... The goal is 2000 hp on alcohol, and hopefully 4.70 1/8th mile pass, but anywhere close, I’ll be super stoked!! The learning curve is gonna be brutal!!!! But worth the effort... So here’s some pics; “as far as I know” FIRST EVER, Crank Driven Procharged (F1x-12R) Big Block Buick!!! Plus a “mock up” pic before I pulled the motor for this conversion.. Thanks, Gary G
… took a while for me to figure out where front and rear of the engine is I am impressed, it seems like a huge undertaking to me. Keep us posted!
Wow, pretty impressive! Should be FUN!!! Being consistently near the bottom of the list is no fun, and this should get you farther up that list! Even what you where doing with the NOS was impressive in this basically "uncharted territory". Best of luck with it!!! (I'll be extremely pleased if my goal of an 8 second "street car" happens with my current build!)
Ken has the complete setup with a very big blower, and also a gear drive for the cam/billet front cover.. all the parts sat on the shelf in my shop for a while.. Not sure where they went, but your correct, as far as I know, yours is the first setup to make it to that stage of completion. Good luck with it.. head gaskets will be the limit on your ability to make power. Good luck! JW
Block is o-ringed and the heads have receiver grooves.,, Hoping for the best!! All theses guys have told me to “put an LS in it”, or “Chevy”, I just tell them running the aftermarket block, the Buick “could” be, or even better, than that stuff...., Now we shall see!! Screw “LS everything”, Tomahawk Big Block Buick EVERYTHING!!!!!! Thanks for the compliments, nothing has been “bolt on”.... Gary G
Looking good Gary, yours is the fastest Buick I have ever witnessed in person, I'm looking forward to seeing it run even faster. Maybe I can see it in Vegas or Fontana, please post when you plan on either of those locations or somewhere close! Good luck with your project! Bob H.
Insane... Core supports are for nerds anyway. Is that little fan/radiator going to keep that monster cool?
You lost me with some of that engine mumbo-jumbo, but basically you put a crate motor in a chevelle, right?
I will be running alcohol, so I really don’t “need” a radiator, but in case I do some extended driving, or want to cool the motor down quicker, that Honda radiator should do the trick.
Make sure to post at video when that sucker eat some air - that is an impressive build. Great to see that you build what you dream.
