watching the video, he's leaving a couple of tenths on the line due to lousy suspension set up. then there's the trans/rpm launch.
Exactly what I thought but you're more the expert so glad to know I was on the right track (no pun intended).
expert....not me. just like to look at things to see how they work. this car should leave at a way higher rpm than my dragster. we leave at 3500rpm. any more than that and it looks real ugly twisting all over the place. other rails leave at over 5k. we couldn't do that at all.
Know the feeling - I read, observe, play with, and figure out how stuff works. Would love to see a vid of the dragster in action. Testiment to what these little engines are capable of.
I think The Chevy 350 is smaller, every time I see a Chevelle with a 350, I think " Wish the Buick 350 afforded that much room"
mart, what we missing in that note? all the plus'es and a nhra stocker goes faster with LESS. we know chassis setup sucks just by the launch. mike p, help us out....
Ha, I figured you'd have a way to prod Mike a little for rear suspension do's and don't. Yep that hit off the line is important if you're going all out. Sometimes the race is won on the line...
I already had my say 5 days ago in post #35. Try as I might I can't find any good information about that "Alf Wiebe Suspension" that gsjohnny1 has mentioned elsewhere. I only found a tiny picture of the parts that come with it. There's also debate on how good it is/was. The only thing for sure is it is not made anymore. Too bad. I would say that any "Stocker" in his class would probably weight less than a regular street car unless his is lightened. I'm not sure there. He's no where near convertered or geared up like a stocker. I still say he is running a darn good ET for the MPH. When it hooks cleanly the ET will drop.
http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?th...buick-seattle-intl-raceways-mid-1990s.323960/ and jason line. there are more pics and info on line. but wiebe is retired i think. there is another guy doing it, but forgot who. damn age issue..
Looks like it's leaving hard. I'm sure there is room for improvement but 2 tenths seems like a lot. I didn't see a 60' time but i bet hes in the 1.55-1.60 area which is decent for the ET.
That is what I want for the wagon. keeping the 350 if possible. I keep thinking of BBB. If I could get a street brawler 350. That I could drive anywhere. So, guys any thoughts on a build. Tim
Obviously the wagons are a bit heavier than their 2 door brothers. Anybody have numbers for the wagons VS the coupes? Im guessing the wagons are about 400 lbs or more heavier. Knowing that, figure a deeper rear gear than 3.42, 3.90 or deeper maybe. add to that an overdrive of some sorts, Gear Vendors or a 2004r 4 speed auto. The 350 makes plenty of torque, not as much as the 455, but amongst the 350's its stout. Mild roller cam, Aluminum heads, Dual plane intake, MAYBE even the Single plane SP3 as Im a believer the SP3 gives up VERY LITTLE in low end on the Buick 350. AT LEAST 10 to 1 true compression ratio, even 11 to 1 Forged rods and pistons. Headers, Im using TA's Super Comps, some will say their to large, but I say BS If you run a dual plane, use a Q-Jet If you decide on the SP3, use a Double Pumper Holley at least 750 cfm DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER A VACUUM SECONDARY Even the Q-Jet is mechanical mechanical secondary, it just doesnt have the squirters for the secondary's and it doesnt play well with a single plane at sudden WOT.
A little teaser. Somewhere in MI there is a 370 SBB that has just received the new TA heads and manifold. Also has Procharger D1 and 1200 Fitech.
