I wouldn't get "Feel Pro"...I'm thinking they might be Chinese knock offs....like the AC Dealco filters...;)

Had them in my first motor. They served me well. My only problem with them was lack of valve notches.

I have a little over 4000 miles so far off top o my head. They been floored plenty w about 12 track passes. I am just wanting to know if the cometics live on the street.
When did fel pro start making Chinese gaskets?
I milled heads .015 and was looking to go thinner on gasket for a little boost.
Thanks all. Hope we all can learn from this.

The only negative I have ever heard about Cometic gaskets is that they require a certain surface preparation. I have no complaints about the 1125 Felpro gasket. Not sure what Bruce is talking about.

I think Bruce is making fun of the misspelt thread title "Feel Pro vs Cometic head gaskets"

There is no problem with MLS gaskets on a street motor. They are used by the OEM's. I use them because I blew the "orange crush" gasket and a FelPro. Cometic has held up great. Only problem in my opinion is cost.

The Fel-Pro gaskets have a single steel core with a composite material on each side.
The TA Orange Crush gaskets have two steel cores bonded with a carbon graphite material; the same material NASCAR head gaskets were made out of. It has 3/8" coolant holes to pass water to the exhaust ports and provisions for the 4 extra head bolts that our heads support.

The Orange Crush is a stronger head gasket with greater sealing performance. When proper torquing procedure is followed you should never have an issue on engines up to 13:1. For lower compression engines the Fel-Pro is fine, but we wouldn't recommend a Fel-Pro for an engine over 11:1.

The Cometic MLS is a great gasket as well and can be reused if proper care is taken. Our MLS gaskets are made exclusively for us by Cometic and have the 4 additional head bolt holes. A set from TA is $195 for the standard thicknesses and a set from Cometic is $201.34. So you're getting a better gasket for less from TA.

Any issue using the Cometic MLS gaskets on a '73 455 stage 1 head? Or would the Orange Crush be a better option?

Should have noted my motor is boosted.

No issue with using the MLS. If you aren't running super high compression I would use an orange crush. If you're pulling the heads off and on a lot I'd consider an MLS as you can reuse it, so it would then save you money. If it were my engine I'd use the orange crush. We're working on having orange crush gaskets made for the 350 with the new aluminum heads being available.

Yeah the MLS would be a better choice boosted. Even with moderate amounts of boost the Orange Crush should hold up if they are retorqued multiple times over the course of a few days, but the steel shim exists for a reason.
