I have the complete Stage 2 package (less factory cam) that came with the Jones and Benisek car I own. Heads are unported. Even have the hood, Stage 2 hood scoop and air pan that the Buick engineers supplied to them. Priceless in my opinion!

I am still a bit confused on the D port heads, :Do No: Were they factory cast. If they were . Did they carry a different casting number from the round ports. I would assume they would have too. It seems to me the D ports were the early ones given out to the select few in the begining . The round ports were part of the 75 -100 sets cast for the general public. Is this correct.

Pat Sweeny has a set on Turners old Stage 2.
Sid Meyer has a set on his Stage 2.

These ARE the Holy Grail of Buick High Performance.

Someone start a list and see how many sets we can account for.

    Stage 2 Registry Effort

It appears obvious from the response to this post there are many of us who are interested in the history of the Buick Stage 2 performance effort. Its also obvious there is some confusion and speculation as to the details of the work Buick did in the late 60s and early 70s with the S2 program.

Why not try to get all the available documentation in one place and do a registry for the remaining S2 parts (primarily the heads)? I would be willing to help with assistance of a few other dedicated S2 fans to compile this information and create the registry.

We could also capture the stories of the individuals who have owned, raced or participated in the development or refinement of the S2 package. There are many directions we could go with this effort that would be enjoyable for all Buick purists to read and learn about.

Is a S2 registry a good idea? Is getting all the information in one place (website) of any value? Is anyone willing to help out? Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas on the topic would be appreciated.

Philip, I think thats agreat idea. :TU: I am glad so many have appreciated this Stage 2 thread. My interest stems from my cutting my teeth on Buicks, when my Dad was a sales manager for a Buick dealer when I was growing up. I was the only guy in high school (65 Gran Sport) who knew of the Buick performance potential. I read every Hot Rod article on Pop Kennedy and Stage 1 and 2 tid bits they mentioned in the mostly Chevy/Ford/Mopar dominated magazines. My dad would reluctantly bring home Buick Performance Bulletins for me. Unfortunately I didn't save them and my memory is a little foggy from that time to add any substance.
Although I continued to buy mostly performance Buicks through my marrige and adulthood. I have just come back with a real interest in Buick Performance the past few years.

I think a Stage 2 registry would be an outstanding venture. I would be willing to help in any way possible , but my computer skills are limited.
I don't know what I could do :Do No: but I would be willing to assist.

I hope one day to be able to find and afford a set so I can run a nostalga
theme on my 71 Stage 1. :TU:

I hope this tread doesn't die,but maybe edited for a sticky on the board. I would love to know what happened to the rest of the car 1358. We know that the hood and air cleaner assembly, Tom Rix has. Where is the rest of the car and motor. We know it threw a rod, but were is the rest? I well say the body was crushed, but the drive train? Come on someone has a clue.

I am wondering how much interest there is in having some sort of list or registry for iron Stage 2 heads. It would be nice to know how many sets are left, and the condition they are in. I am interested since I just aquired a set that has had no port work done and are not cracked.

    Dan

ps: Maybe Marco could be consulted on how to establish a list. Could it be an add on to the Stage 1 registry?

    Guys,
I just noticed something, if you go to post # 50 (That John Fritz posted) and look at the far right head that Dennis Manner is holding, that is one of the Stage 2 tunnel port heads. You can see the tubes (where the push rods go) inside the intake ports. Both the 4-bolt block along with it's original set of tunnel port heads will be displayed at Salem.
    Here is a sneak peek.

Duane, kudos to you and shame on you at the same time!

As an amateur Buick historian, many thanks. I look forward to whatever you can post.

    Devon,
I am sure there will be lots of info posted about this subject after Dennis Manner looks at the block and authenticates the heads, and possibly the intake.

    Huh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????

    Well, I'll be damned

I have tried to picture what those heads looked like for YEARS (solely off the description given me so long ago) and thanks to Duane there they are!

Way to go Duane, I could not be happier with the home the "Stage 3" block has gotten.

    Excellent work, :TU: man

I cannot wait to see, and participate with unraveling the mystery of Buicks "Back Room".

This is going to be like opening a time capsule as more info comes forward :beer
