One of the most interesting parts of this thread is that there is no consenus on the amount of Factory Stage II heads produced. And it may well be, we will never know. Of course the fewer produced, the more they are worth I would suppose, but then again, their rairty now, regardless of the amount produced, adds a certain dollar value. Regardless, when the 65 'lark is done, (about half-way as we speak), it will sport a little factoid on the rear side windows suggesting it is powered by an authentic Buick Stage II motor, albiet a good deal of upgrades which won't be mentioned. Hopefully this will draw some Chub guys, Mopar Misters, and Ford felons to the car at the strip. Now if I can get it done before I'm too old to drive the damn thing.
Stage 2 pictures Here are some pictures of the S2 engine equipped with all the factory available parts including a NOS pair of the Kustom 2 1/8" headers.
Wow Philip  Lookin good! Can I get some close ups of the Kustom headers? Just want to compare to my Kustoms.....or mine could be the original KenneBell stg2 headers. On a side note my Reynolds car came with the original 10 bolt rear (that I need to restore and replace the 12 bolt with) with the 4:78 gear that Pop ran, but the gears are stripped :ball: So I'm looking for a set.....anybody??
Thanks Philip! Once again, that is some sweet work youre doing there!!! More pics would be great! I have two sets (not counting the wrong TA headers on the car) of headers, the rusty beat up ones that came with the car and another set that I bought that the guy claimed to be Kustoms (nos shape). Both sets look completly different...so now I know, the headers that came with the car are KenneBell's. We should do a head count  To have some idea on how many heads are out there. I have two sets, (4 heads). 12-01-2009 edit*** the headers that came with the car are the correct Kustom brand headers. The headers I got at a later date are like Philip's...which are the early TA's slip fit. I resold TA's, but now have another "almost nos" set of Kustoms and the original Kustoms that came with the car.
I second the idea of seeing how many iron stage 2 heads are out there. I have 1 pair of them, with Charlie Evans building an engine using them for me.We are going alittle stronger and different than the factory and I plan on using shorty headers,p/s,a/c and an offy 2x4;all on pumpgas. It will be interesting how close anyone's numbers are. Mike Nussell :3gears:
Guy, After looking at the pictures of the carbs on these engines I figured I would post a pic of the carb that I have. Is it a correct Stg 2 carb??? Let me know!!
John Any early 850 holly with choke assembly were used, nothing special.I just got mine from a local speed shop in 1969.What is the one you show,is it an old one? gary
According the the literature, Buick used an 850 double pumper. Holley part number is 0-4781. Holley still makes the carb to this day. You have to specify the "classic carb" to get the one with the correct finish
Heres the original Receipt from Erb Bros Buick when I ordered the Stage 2 stuff for my 69 GS,I got the headers,carb,B4B,etc from other sources. gary
Carb John, that looks correct to me. I'll pm you. Thanks!! Gary, I think it's so cool that you had the foresight to save all that great literature. (& Mike N.) And also that KENNEDY-BELL decal :TU:
That purchase in 69 dollars is 2365.22 in 2005 dollars when considering the general rate of inflation. Still it was a good investment.
Gary, A few years ago I purchased a 455 Buick engine that had an original stg 2 cam, stg 2 pistons, stg 1 heads and B4bon it. The guy who had this engine worked for a Buick dealership and purchased all of the parts from Buick. The stg 2 pistons were almost 20 grams lighter than my JE pistons. Later
If you could find the Stage 2 heads , would you be able to match up headers today. What would be your options???
The Kustom headers were the slip fit multi piece header design,I still have them on Scat.I don't know of anyone who makes the multipiece anymore. You could get totally welded stage 2 headers from TA. gary
