These are the instructions for installing GM hood tachs. I've also included a pic from another thread as to the exact location for the hole.
The wiring directions "may or may not" work with a reproduction hood tach.

On most of the newer repros, you can see the screws that hold the tach mechanism to the tach face, thru the window. On originals, the screws are down lower and pretty much hidden. The first repros were really awful looking, with the case looking like it was molded using the outside of an original case, and was all one piece with the front bezel. The bottom of these first repros were bad too. In the pics below, you can see an NOS AC tach, and NOS late '71 thru '72 Buick tach, and on the right, and old Year One tach. HTH.

thread resurection!

My new tach from Year One has serious condensation problems. (for the record...my old one from Poston or OPG NEVER had any condensation problems without any vent?)

Looking for a copy of instructions to install the tach vent line. (maybe the ones that come with the parts place kit?)

If no instructions, maybe someone can post some good pics of the vent line location in the tach when installed in the hood, the routing, and the filter and attachment locations?

Lastly, I really want to try and make my own vent line kit rather than paying the $39.00 asking price. line, fittings are not a problem....but what about the filter? Ideas on another vent line filter that will work?

I am trying to make sense of why my repro tach only works with my lights on. I have it plugged into stock tach wire harness. Any thoughts?

Looking at various install instructions I have, looks like some repros don 't connect as original. One shows black ground, brown coil, and gray to bulb side of light switch. Another has black ground, black/pink to coil and brown to acc terminal...to get dimmer fn, have to buy a "dimmer module" with gray which goes to inst lamps...don't know if this helps any...

Thanks John, I am getting the feeling this tach is not for me. As soon as I find a good rebuildable original this POS will be for sale. Would be nice for someone that just wants the look and does not care about original wiring. I worked too hard on keeping this car correct to shortcut now. For now I juts need to run with the parking lights on.

I would temporally use the wire harness they sent you and connect the black ground, black/pink to coil and brown to ACC or ING terminal. The tach light will stay on but at least you will not have to run your lights in the daytime. If you wanted to keep your original plug you could temporally push the one connector out and use one from the other connector to hook to the ING . If you do don’t forget to tape your original up.
