Many years ago a fellow employee conned me into joining facebook. I was not happy with the results, every person I went to high school with wanted to tell me their life story. Not my style and I soon deleted the account without doing any postings, other than the original required one.
Today I am running into more internet listings for stuff that forces me to the person/company's face book page. Some of you here also post stuff for sale that leads to face book and locks me out.
So my question is how do I get a minimally invasive face book listing so I can look at stuff without being contacted by everyone and their pet duck?
Yes I am an old crudmudgeon who values his little privacy left.
Thanks for any ideas, nothing too technical or I'll melt down.

If the only way to buy/participate in a contest, etc. is Farcebook I just skip it and move on.

Create a account. set your privacy settings as private. Only the people you want see you will. On the + side, there is lots of Buick pages to be browsed and many of the guys on the board here are there also.

Of course theres something to be said about 1970 high school girls in the yearbook flashing their wares LOL... ws:rolleyes:

Secret agent 0-0-4-5-5. Its a shame that all this techno crap has led us into a world of reclusion and afraid to say whats on our mind in person. Youll either get punched in the face or arrested for a hate crime. Withdraw and get a land line. ws

The words 'facebook' and 'minimally invasive' do not go together. And yes, I still have a landline.

I also retain a landline. Had to upgrade my cell phone to a "smart phone" last year. I refuse to add any apps, or other shortcuts. Don't even have email set up on it. My employer regularly suggests I install their company app, but I pay for all data and usage fees, um, NO.

It's a phone to me, period.

Pretty much the same for me Tom. And yes, we still have a landline, mostly but not totally because cell coverage here in rural Florida is awful. Installing a metal roof (the only way to go here) didn't help reception either.

If you live as far East as we do, yes. 200 yards to our East is Gargulio's huge Tomato fields.

As has been stated before, create a profile set everything to private and avoid profiling questions, skip where possible or click past them. This is the same method for creating ghost accounts. DO NOT download the FB app for a smart phone, always use a browser to access FB and use a "junk" email address that you can check every now an then. You can use your preferred email address with the risk of getting SPAM.. Short of knowing your geographical location like using a land line you will achieve the level of privacy you desire.
