yes it does Sean ..the cpu does anyway.not sure if it works only in mpfi or also in tbi http://www.jegs.com/p/FAST/Fast-Advanced-Race-Control-Self-Tuning-XFI-20/1533862/10002/-1
I will have to wait till it comes out to see I guess.... What EFI are you using on your sheet metal intake?
Just got off the phone with F.A.S.T. I asked them if the new 2.0 throttle body could be supplied with a 2 bar MAP for boost application. The answer was They didn't have that worked out yet. I will be going to the PRI show in Orlando at the end of Nov. and will see them there. Hopefully they will know more by then. Paul
The throttle body has 8 fuel injectors with fuel rails and still requires at least 43 lbs of fuel pressure so electric fuel pumps are still needed. I will find our more at the PRI show this Nov. including avialabilty date. The next SBC engine we build will use the Inglese Velocity Stack version for a 65 Impala so I too have an interest. Paul
I need one. I need to totally overhaul my Cadillac's carb anyway. It looks like the 2.0 version works with a standard mechanical fuel pump too. I would think it would make the Caddy run better than a carb ever would. I wonder when it will be out? ---------- Post added at 04:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:45 PM ---------- Thanks for the clarification.
Sorry for being the village idiot, but what does this system do the the current one doesn't?? Maybe it works right?? Doesn't the current systen support boost??
Two things stand out right away that the current one does not do. This one is the biggest plus for the new 2.0: It Controls timing! It has 8 injectors instead of four and can handle 1200 hp instead of the present 600 hp. The current throttle body only comes with a 1 bar MAP sensor so no boost support. However if the contol unit and software will map more than 1 bar then there is nothing that says you can't install your own 2 bar MAP sensor in the intake manifold and wire it into the system. Paul
So somebody like me with a stock points distributor would need to upgrade to a MSD or something,to control timing?
The FAST EFI system needs to trigger an ignition unit like an MSD box because it doesn't have a driver to directly fire the ignition coil. The points timing bounces around so you would need to install a crank trigger like the FAST unit to trigger the FAST EFI system. Your distributor would only be distributing spark. http://www.fuelairspark.com/Products/FS-'Crank Triggers'-0.aspx THe other option is to install an electronic unit in the distributor to replace the points. Then you would need to lock out the mechanical advance and the vacuum advance so neither one would change the signal timing. The timing is not as stable as the crank trigger. Paul
Ive already got the 1st version, Id be curious if we'll be able to retain most of the existing hardware/wiring ( seems they indicate the existing TB will work ) and then add the ignition timing. The ignition timing would be what I want most otherwise the system seems to perform well for me.
End of Nov? The Turkey Rod and Run car show is in Daytona, just over an hour from Orlando Nov 22-25 There were about 5000 cars last year. There will be a few board members there, if you find a group of Buicks, introduce yourself!
Curtis I would love to meet you guys. Unfortunately the PRI show isn't till Nov 29th and runs thru Dec 2nd. Paul
do you have a link to more technical specs of the unit? IE stuff like does it have an air inlet temp sensor etc?
I'll be using Holley hp series multi port...just bank to bank for now via msd magnetic pickup and box..all programmable with laptop I may Change distributor or get an hei modded for sequential later down the road. Hopefully I'' have pictures monday of the X-factor intake modded with the fuel rails injectos/bungs and an fitting. going to have it pressure tested so i know marks welds, and the shops welds dont leak under boost
I'm headed to the PRI tomorrow as well. Paul, make sure you ask FAST what it won't do, not just what it will do. They're notorious for telling people what they want to hear. I'm currently helping someone tune a FAST 2.0 XFI on a big solid roller 434 SBC with the "self learning" activated. Guess what, it didn't self learn, runs like crap.
Just got back from the PRI trade show. Got a chance to ask a bunch of questions about the 2.0 There are 8 injectors but only 4 are used initially till they get to a designated duty cycle then the other 4 are phased in for the additional power capability. The system is only set up for 1 BAR because there are too many variables under boosted conditions to create a learning algorithm and FAST doesn't want to be responsible for engine damage. Different fuel requirements for Roots, twin screw, centrifugal superchargers and turbocharging with different levels of intercooling make it difficult for self learning but they are working on it. The timing control is not self learning, but you still get to map it. There are some improvements to the new throttle body and the dyno results show more HP over the 1.0 The unit is supposed to be available in March somewhere around the $2500 area. Paul
