I have pulled my exhaust manifold bolts out of my 215 v8 and discovered that 14 of them are the same, but 2 of them are about 1/4 inch longer. .does anyone know why or where those 2 bolts go?

Look at the flanges on your manifolds, you should find some variation in the thickness of the flange where the bolt goes through. If not, thread a bolt into each hole and see how deep it goes. The end holes may not go quite as deep. You know about the sealant, right?

Thanks for that quick reply that's a great idea to solve the problem of which holes get the longer bolts. Tell me about the sealant.

Any good sealant should work. These days many people like black RTV gasket-maker. It's pretty good, stiffer, more oil resistant, and fairly easy to remove. The next step up is Right Stuff.

so you have to put sealant on the bolts threads? is it the same for 300s? i have 300 heads on my 215 and am curious if i need to use a thread sealer now.
