I always liked the look of exhaust cutouts with those nice chrome extensions coming out just behind the front wheels. They used to have the ribbed chrome caps on the end that bolted in. Are they still available and has anyone seen the performance effect of exhaust cutouts on a nailhead GS?

I believe the product you are referring to are called dump tubes. They are available form several sources: speedway motors, moon equipment, and night prowlers. Try these links to see:

    http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/as...q.0/cont.1/intPgNo.1/redirect./qx/product.htm

    http://www.thenightprowlers.com/
click on inventory and then mufflers

That should give you several options to consider..........

As for the performance improvement, anything that helps the restrictive exhaust through muflers and tailpipes should have some positive effect. Most people just have them so they can open the exhaust for sound when cruising though. Dump tubes do look good and I think they are cool, especially when ran open.

There is also now available pheumatic or electric dump tubes. There is a gate valve in the exhaust that opens and closes at the flick of a switch.

I'll try and find the link and post it here. It is pricey at about $250-275, but definitely high up on the "way cool" scale.
