    Hi Guys,

Haven't been on here in a very long time, but I am ready to get my 69 Electra back up and running this spring. My engine needs a complete rebuild so I am looking to see what I should look for that will bolt right in for now so I can get it back on the road and other things done to it while I rebuild the original the right way.

I currently have the original 430 in it....what other motors will bolt right in? Only Buick motors?

    Thanks for your help.

    Steve

The easiest route would be any of the 400-430-455 engines.

Most efficient way would be to just rebuild the original 430. If you want to increase power you can bore it .062 for about 443 c.i. and some really good blocks will allow a .125 overbore which will turn it into a 455. No need to look further for another engine IMO.

You can do another engine other than buick but you will need an adpater plate between the engine and trans if you go chevy.

olds, pontiac, and caddy engines bolt up fine to the buick transmisson but you would need to swap the frame mounts to match the engine and the body. If GM made a vehicle in the same year with the same body platform then that is what you use for engine mounts and frame pads.

Like people are saying the Buick 400, 430 and 455 swap is the easiest way to go.

He's not doing a permanent swap. As stated:

Yes, now I see. He just wants an interim motor. So, it would make sense to find a running 400,430,455 to just drop in.

I agree, best to stick with a buick big block because then you do not have to convert the setup to work with another engine then convert back again after to put the original engine back in. Just changing the frame pads is a big pain in the butt, I would avoid that... bolt in a runner then switch it out.
