Engine running too cool, no heat inside

Good ideas regarding the gauge I will check into all of that.

I did not fill the core first but I ran it a while with he radiator cap off and saw a lot of air pockets come out. All the hoses feel hot.

The car was running just idling in the driveway.

The water pump pulley is not original and it looks small. Is there a way I can reference the appropriate sizes for the pulleys?

And yes I will remove that filter. I had a lot of carb issues with this car. Between this edelbrock and two q jets I have I’m trying to determine which one works best and then I will hard line it.

Stick with the Q-jet. Them AFBs are dodge carbs. Too fast on the pump wont allow the coolant to pick up heat like it should. Is the pump OEM? Impellar in good shape? Gunk in the block as well?? Its all part of the hobby! ws

Looks like you're making a little progress even if not quite where you want to be.

DD895640-F941-494E-931C-4E106FE5E9FA.jpeg My friend works at SK speed and I brought my auto meter sending unit in and we compared it to a new replacement sending unit that is specified for the gauge I have. We found 2.0 ohms resistance (20k scale) on the new sending unit, while mine had 4.0 ohms.

So I bought the new sending unit, installed it, and now the gauge reading makes sense since I have a 195 thermostat in there. I guess either my sending unit was incorrect, or gone bad.

So to recap I had two issues going on: 1) a heater core clogged with sediment resulting in almost no heat and 2) a bad gauge sending unit resulting in lower than actual temp readings on the gauge.

Thats great news Tony! In todays world with everything relying on "ladder logic" an inaccurate parameter could knock the system below it out of the equation and cause a "HALT SEQUENCE" event; in other worlds yer SOL! ws

My 65 Fairlane does the same thing, as mention above I put cardboard in front of the radiator and it gets warm enough about 160 degrees, this is while running on the interstate for about ten miles then a few more on streets. in t 100 degree weather it cools around 180 using the a/c on the interstate and runs about 190 on streets with lights.

Just an FYI .... the non-A/C special heater hose looped metal fastener is now reproduced .... see the Parts For Sale section. It holds the heater hoses in an oblong looped retained over the right/passenger -side valve cover.
