Those heads are insane in person! What a work of art!
Just to add, the car is going to have the factory dash too! That was a BIG deal to brother Lance!!! One of the real reasons for buying that car.
Crazy story is that the guy whom we bought it from literally drove that car up the Al-can Highway from New Mexico pulling a 71 duster behind it in the late 80's. All tubed out and everything. We are talking 4000 miles of s*** gravel, frost heaved roads that would literally swallow a Honda Civic...The springs in the Duster broke in the Yukon Territory's and driver had to unhook the Duster on the side of the road so he could continue his trip up. Just left the Duster there for good. ( So someone in Canada got a free 71 duster. :)

What's up little bro?!?!?! Welcome to the forums (or should I say back to the forums as I know you were here way before me). I forgot to tell a bunch of the story, I'm sure, just hitting the high notes that I know :). I did a post on your '71 Skylark here: http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/another-buick-in-the-family.323809/

And yes, I've driven that road in my lifted F-250. Driving it in a car (let alone a tubbed 60s musclecar) before the road got mostly paved must've been insane. I remember watching your Trans Am almost catch air a few times on the way up when I was following you....that was interesting.....

Thank you! I haven't been on this forum for very long. Ive only mess around over in the TurboBuick.com for the GN :) This place seems to be great knowledge for the earlier Buicks. Great job!

Just ONE of those intake ports will flow as much or more than all eight in a "Nail". Looks like your Riv. & you got the family into the Buick fold. I myself own an early '69 Charger R/T S/E. Q5, black in, white vinyl roof, 440/375HP, Dana rear (not original) have the 8 3/4, bla/bla/bla. My friend still races his light weight Plymouth he bought new way back when. 426 Max Wedge, aluminum fenders, deck lid, bumpers & other factory parts that were aluminum. It was factory dipped to lessen the weight which has caused other problems. But he still races it to this day, not as much as originally, but he still enjoys it.

I'm actually the last one to the Buick side ....Dad had a '72 Skylark drag car called the "Nitemare" when we were little, and Layne (alaskagn) bought his '87 GN when he was 11 or 12, and still has it, a '63 Riv, and two '71 Skylarks. I wish I could've gotten my Riv earlier in life, but took a while for me to be able to get my stuff together. Layne and Dad actually surprised me and force fed the Riv down my throat by placing a bid on it on Ebay for me (just kidding, Layne)....but that's truly how I got it, and am forever grateful to them for it.

Our family were farmers from the early 1900s up until 10 or 15 years ago when we sold it. Dad went to school to be a carpenter, as did Layne.....long story short (Layne can add more if he wants to) they ended up starting, owning, and running a custom countertop shop up in Wasilla. Have expanded and now Lance (older brother) and Layne (younger brother) have their own shops, with Layne's based out of Anchorage. They do mostly solid surface, granite, and even marble and concrete now. Hopefully Layne will pop back on, but just Google "Surface Works Wasilla" or "Solid Surface Fabricators Anchorage" and you can see some of their handiwork. I'm pretty proud of all of them. I never was into carpentry and such, I'm more of a metal guy, so I stayed down here in Montana having moved up there briefly and did concrete for a bit there. Not my thing hahaha.....

Got his custom billet wheels delivered (spindle mount fronts) and his transmission. Wheels are 16x16 rears and 15x3.5 front. The trans is a B&J Big Boy Triple sprag ( http://www.bandjtransmission.com/ ). When fully locked it's a 1:1 ratio. The lever is for forward and reverse, he'll have individual shifters for the gears when installed. He's debating on the color of the car now, so don't know if he's going to leave the wheels polished or anodized gold like originally planned.

Very nice parts! It will make a nice, shinny machine when it's all done! No matter what brand, I think we all appreciate the work, thought, money, and time we put into our cars to make them the closest way we can afford at any particular time in our life.

What's the issue with screw-type blowers?

They can make too much boost, so they've been "outlawed" in most classes. They make them use a roots type blower now, which doesn't actually compress the air, just pumps it. A twin screw actually compresses the air and can make much more power. Here's a link with a simplified explanation: http://kennebell.net/tech/supercharger-tech/twin-screw-vs-roots/

Kind of a small world...my buddy (Mike - his family owns/operates) Alaska Raceway Park. I'm guessing that's where the car will be running. I've only seen pictures of it but what a beautiful backdrop to race to.

My family all race there and have their own parking spots that their camper is at all year round. Unbelievable venue! By far the most beautiful track I've ever seen, looks like you're racing into a scene from Lord of the Rings, pictures cannot do it justice.....Met Mike myself, super good guy, and my family are all friends with him :) Mention Kim, Lance, and Layne Johnson, and he'll know who you're talking about.

Was up in Alaska for a vacation and we swung by Jay Child's Racecars ( http://www.jaychildsracecars.com/ ) which is where Lance's car is getting built. Jay is a super, super cool guy and was more than happy to show me around and let me snap some pics of the shop and cars. They don't just build racecars, but also customs, street rods, modern stuff, pretty much anything cool. Pretty amazing to go into the engine building area and there's a shelf stacked with blowers, tunnel rams, turbos, heads, and other things for making thousands and thousands of hp. His personal funny car is in the 5's now (that's the body with the NAPA sponsorship, you can barely see the chassis in the pic on the ground in front). He's got a lot of projects going on, lots of street rods and Mustangs . For us Buick guys, the Cobra kit car pictured has a 600+ hp Grand National engine in it. Sorry, I didn't realize this at the time and only got a pic of it's back side.

Here's some pics from the visit, I know some are kind of repeats, but I wanted to get my hand in the photos for some scale. The blower, heads, etc. are huge, it's not like seeing a regular old 8-71 and a set of normal Hemi heads. They're MASSIVE. The Chevy II pictured is getting ready to move out, and Lance's car will be taking it's place. It's out getting sand blasted now, which is where I took a pic of it sitting looking sad in the dirt lot (the only thing getting re-used is the body itself, obviously). Jay said "Hey, we know this engine can make 8000 horsepower, but we only want 4000" and then he giggled..........
