Hey there, got some numbers on the cam change I said I was going to do in an earlier post:
the eng. was built in 1998 by T/A Performance Products, and has been raced and driven for the past four years in a full weight 1971 gs 455.
This engine has not been touched in four years other than a new intake and carb in 2001, regular oil changes and tune ups,
The engine is a 494 stroker motor, J&E 12.2 to 1 pistons, girdled block, eight year old T/A stage 2 heads (street elim.) mild cleanup flows 300cfm@.500 intake and 248 cfm@.500
    I.65 roller rockers , T/A intake and pro systems 1088 dominator, 2" T/A headers with full 3" exhuast, th400 trans, 4;10 gears
    Best E.T. last year was 11.18 @ 121mph W/1.62 60 ft.

eng. as pulled from car with T/A hydraulic cam, 258/258 single pattern cam .614 lift@.50 and 110 L.S
On the dyno, this cam and four year old combination put out 647.8 HP @5800 rpm and 656 ft/lbs.@ 4500 rpm.

We then swapped cams to the T/A 308s solid cam and lifters, installed this cam 4* advanced and buttoned it up for another pull, This combo netted 659Hp@ 6150rpm and 641 ft/lbs. at 4600 rpm.

we used castrol 10w 30 oil to break in the cam and make a pull or two, then switched back to the 10w40 Red Line oil I had been using in the eng. and noted an approximate gain of 5-6 HP.

When this eng. was built By T/A Performance in 98 they claimed the above numbers within 10 hp and 15 ft/lbs. I think this says ALOT about their engine building program! Thanks Mike.

As I write this were still planning our next move for the engine,I'm glad to say with the Help of Brian Earick of EARICK RACING ENGINES in Newark Ohio. 740-366-6672 Brian has showed total professionalism in helping me with this project, and has been a pleasure to work with thus far, we will post more info as soon as possible, thanks to Brian, Dale, and Mike T.

    Re: Stock Rods?

You can't use the stock Buick rods with TA's 494 stroker kit. Among other things, the crankshaft's connecting rod journals are offset ground to a smaller size to achieve it's new 4.15" stroke.
