Engine block ID

    Trying to get origins of engine; on drivers rear of block has # 2550474 next to it is 5.7 Any help or insights welcomed.

    Photos always help. I don't think any vintage Buick engine would have a 5.7 cast into it.

    Look on the step just behind the intake manifold with a flashlight.

    Well if it's like a big block it should be stamped to the left of the timing cover on the front of the block when looking at the front of engine block which is the passenger side. You will have to clean that area off to see it. I could look on my 350 block but I gave it to Mike to store it.

    Looking at the blk #s looking like a 1975 ish block carb intake look closer to 68: heads ? Can they be ID on car ?

    The head casting number is under the valve cover.

    Pulled the covers off and doesn't look that bad. These are the numbers I could see.

    My 77 heads have a long number on the area like you're showing but maybe on the other end.

    Better light and tidy'd up a tad, what general direction should I be looking in?

    Possibly a Jeep(Buick) Dauntless 350. They were called a 5.7's in some cases. Yours has the earlier style rocker arms and that would jibe with the years the engines were used in Jeeps.
