    Hey all,

So the bearings i have for my 455 apparently got scratched some point. Enough to catch your fingernail. So i am going to get new replacements. Not sure which ones from TA to buy or if I should just order new Clevite 77s which the damaged ones are.

What is the main difference from the Race Rod/Main bearings and the non-race? Either one better for a street engine never seeing north of 5500?

    Thanks,

    Scott

Have a reputable engine builder look at them.
Babbitt is malleable and can have some imperfections without cause for concern.
Journals need to be near perfect.

Race bearing will be a harder material. Not a big deal, just be diligent about changing the oil (less embedibility )

Thanks Michael, I have been having a helluva time finding a good engine builder around here lately. Time and effort finding one, then driving to and from would negate any cost savings. At this point I am looking to just replace them.

Thanks Scott, seems that the cost savings between the two matter more then than the construction. I just wasn't sure if the TA race bearings have extra groove length for oil flow.
