'67 Special with stock 300-2. Plan on switching to electronic ignition. Would prefer to use stock distributor and put in a "points eliminator" kit. The two choices seem to be Accel and Pertronix. Any preferences?
Use the Lectric Limited for reliability. Todd carries those also. https://www.stage1restoration.com/product/electronic-ignition-conversion-kit-lectric-limited/ Do not take a chance on a failure leaving you on the side of the road.
This is the best one, not the least expensive, but the best. https://www.lectriclimited.com/conv...rless-se-electronic-ignition-conversion-85474
Is this a knock-off, or the exact same product under a different brand name? https://www.ebay.com/itm/American-Autowire-38131-Breakerless-SE-Ignition-System/402057363030
Here's a bit of info about the Lectric Limited kit that everyone's mentioning . . . . Lectric Limited Brand Electronic Ignition Kit. This Kit replaces the Factory Style Points. Hooks up the Same Exact way as your Factory Distributor. No need to change any Wiring. Stock Appearing when Done! I’ve installed and sold over 100 of these so far and have yet to have any issues! Simple design that works!! No extra wires like most other brands require. Hooks up to your Factory wiring. Does not interfere with the Factory Air Cleaner like an HEI does. We use this same kit on our “Stock Appearing” Stage 1 that runs’ in the 11’s. We also use Lectric Limited Factory Replacement Spark Plug Wires. If you want a simple conversion that work and looks totally stock this is the kit! Made in the USA I do have these in stock and below the Retail price. More info and installation pictures here > https://www.stage1restoration.com/product/electronic-ignition-conversion-kit-lectric-limited/ Thank you Jim for the referrals!
I am throwing away my Crane XR-I conversion, two of these have taken a crap on me in the past 5 years. Needless to say the factory wiring from the coil is gone, I can just run a new wire from coil negative to the LECTRIC LIMITED module to do the swap? what coil do you recommend with this kit?
So you want to go from one problem points replacement to another? Both of them seem to have problems. Just go with the one discussed in this thread, https://www.ebay.com/itm/American-Autowire-38131-Breakerless-SE-Ignition-System/402057363030 BTW, your problem could still be vapor lock, gas boiling out of the carburetor causing an extreme rich condition in the intake.
Oh no... sorry that's the one I meant, the Lectric Limited not the Pertronix. I ha Pertronics on the brain when I posted that. That's what I was asking though Larry, since I have abandoned my Points and condenser about 5 years ago that factory wire from the coil is gone. I can just run a new wire from the coil negative to the LECTRIC LIMITED module from the looks of the schematic on their website, correct? And yes, the vapor lock is a separate issue that I have, I have a whole thread on that but this is a new issue. The vapor lock take 20-30 minutes of sitting after a good long hot run before it becomes an issue. This issue is immediate and recent. Thanks for the help, sorry if my questions seem elementary.
If you no longer have the resistance wire and bypass, you'll need to use a ballast resistor in the main line and wire in a bypass just like stock. As far as the Robb Mc or any other mini starter goes, you can wire the bypass to the "S" terminal, but you'll need to use a diode inline, so the voltage only goes one way.
Call Robb. He is pretty good about that kind of thing. He sent me an additional shim and other small things when I needed them, no charge. 775) 885-7411
