I believe Tomlinson was doing those intake mods. With his flow bench business.

Aluminum conducts heat much faster than cast iron. The exhaust will definitely heat the intake up more and faster, but the aluminum intake will also dissipate it faster. The TA aluminum heads don't have a crossover. Unless you are running a Chevy type divorced choke on your aluminum intake, I'd block them off.

Thanks Larry. Yup! Divorce choke. I just purchased a used B4b. Need to figure out the choke now.

I'd block them off anyway and add an electric choke.

You’re right. I’ve formed a good bond with the divorced choke though, adds a nice old school look. Lol.

Nice Intake Matt. Send that out and walnut blast that. Please don’t bead or sand blast that. Aluminum too soft. Gives it a bad look.

what is a a Divorced choke?

It's a choke that went thru a trial separation from the carb. They both decided it was better this way so they got divorced. Now the choke permanently resides away from the carb. ;)

Can divorced chokes be purchased new and relatively inexpensive or do I have to find a used one? I was thinking of adding an electric choke to mine but this may be a simpler cheaper option? What's the pros/cons to either setup?

Yep Steve, all of our old dinosaurs are divorced choke. More modern carburetors have the choke mechanism attached to the carb. Mostly electric....

Sorry for digging out this topic.

I wanted to ask you if there is any substantial difference in performance between stock intake manifold from 72 vs 75? Looking at pics they seem pretty the same. The casting number of my intake is 1247331 and comparing it to e.g. 1243020 I see some small difference but what about performance? I’ve found a post of JW who said that from 75 only block, crank and connecting rods are fine and rest should be trashed... so also the intake?

The later intakes sometimes have A.I.R. injection rails and EGR passageways. You can plug them up and the intake would be just as good as any other intake, just uglier.:)

As Larry said, they aren't optimal but they will work. Unless that is all you have, I wouldn't use it. I took the last one I had to the scrap yard. I kept the pre-smog ones just in case.
