    Hey jw,
Just wondering is the sbc roller rockers also an issue due to its made to ride on a narrow 11/32 Chevy valve? Would it make sense to just convert valves and rockers both?
Just wondering I never played with a set yet and wondered your opinionon on this price and performance wise...

Sounds like the best way to buy the E-heads is to buy them bare and have your local machine shop build them for you. They may even be able to get a better price on the parts or you can order them from TA? Its better to buy heads that way because you can have the recommended springs for the cam you're running installed right from the start instead of trying to pick a cam to match the springs that come with the heads or swap the springs. Ken,

Yes, fixed position roller rockers are the worst offenders with the noise issue. It's know that a ball-pivot style of rockers, like the stockers or a Comp Cams roller tip rocker, can compensate better for the side load, and are less noisy.

And Derek, yes, it is better to buy the heads bare and have them custom machined. Don't bet on a cheaper price..

Edelbrock does not make it easy to do this, because unless you want to swallow the big dollar buy-in to get WD pricing, there is very little discount at the wholesale level, which most shops are at. Also, the Buick Guide plates don't even show up in the catalog, I had to call them directly to have them come up with a PN so I could order them.

I get castings and the guide plates from Edelbrock, and source all the other parts elsewhere.

Sorry Jim, I should of mentioned that anyone that wants to buy a set of E-heads could also buy them directly from Tri-Shield built to the needs of the buyer delivered ready to bolt on and run.

I wasn't betting on a cheaper price for labor, some shops can get better pricing on parts though if you know the right shop.

    Jim will these rockers work better for the E-heads?;

If those don't have the right amount of offset sbc rockers are made with more offset than those, Crane makes a .150" offset roller lifter as well but probably to much offset? I just read the ad for the rockers in the link and it says they are available in .050", .150", and .250" offsets.

What is the Buick offset, anyone?

No worries Derek, no one around here is getting rich doing E heads... profit margins are thin on those.. just another service I offer.

Yes, those rockers would work.. I had no idea they were available.. goes to show what I know about SBC.. offset is about .080 as I recall, but I will have to look closer at one..

The Harland Sharp rockers don't look adjustable and are offset on intake rockers only. Anyone know the best adjustable rockers to use on a set of edelbrock heads?
Do intake and exhaust rockers both need to be offset?

Yes, both are offset an equal amount.

The Buick 455 has a "L" and "R" rocker.. they are offset an equal amount toward the rocker stand.

Harland sharp would have to put a custom set together for you. But apparently they have the rocker bodies, so it should not be any problem to package 8 L and 8 R Rockers.

What Jim said and the sbc style rockers are all adjustable with the stud and nut style rocker.

Scott Brown at Competition Components will CNC port them and blueprint them for $1100. I ran them with Comp Magnum roller rockers and stock valve covers with thick gaskets, no problems. Car ran high 11's with a simple 10:1 combo.
