Edelbrock heads from Jim Weise! They looks GREAT!

So I sent some Edelbrock heads and a CV fuel pump to Jim.
I told him he had time on the heads because my motor was just getting started
And although he took some time with them, it was worth the wait.
These heads look exceptional and I've had nothing but compliments from all
my Buick buddies and engine builder.
The flow numbers were more than I could have imagined as well.

Did I mention it was a great deal too!

Now I ordered a hydraulic roller cam kit ground to my head flow
numbers and a new Billet rollmaster key chain.

Jim thanks for all your help and the great deal.

Awesome. Once I can muster the dinero I'll be having him do some TA Stage 1s for me. I have my timing cover up there now. What are your power goals? I would think with hydraulic roller matching the heads and all you should be north of 550. That's just my guess by looking at other builds. Good Luck with it.

I'm hoping 600 plus with the 10.8 to 1 compression.
When I get a chance I'll try and take some pics.
They look and flow outstanding for a level 2 port job.

What are your flow numbers? I'm looking to get 313 intake flow with 225 exhuat at .600. My cam will only be a .525 lift for now with 1.6 ratio rockers. Should be right at 9:8:1. But with the duration of the cam and set up it should give me optimal 8:1 dynamic compression so its a safe good running tune. Eventually I'll go with a hydraulic roller set up closer to .600 lift and all to make some more power and might bump my static compression up a little.

Awesome! Can you share the flow sheet with us?

That's funny jzuelly mine are almost exactly those numbers.
    .500 is 316 in 216 ex
    .600 is 316 in 222 ex

Remember these are Edelbrock heads. I'm sure Jim could
get a little better numbers with your TA Stage 1's.

That is Ironic I knew the Edelbrocks and TA heads were different in some ways. Combustion Chamber and all. Will see about how far I port them. Talking to JW it seems for my street car with my cam being the 288-92h cam with its 231 intake duration and 234 exhuast duration would perform very well with that much flow. Currently I am piston limited. I have forged pistons but they do not have valve reliefs. I bought my short block from another Bucik enthusiast. I honeslty would ow went with JW's Forged Diamond pistons and Chevy Rods if I had hand picked them. I got such a good deal on the set up though I can't complain. Also to be honest over 500 horses is probably gonna be a learning curve for me at first. the meanest thing I've ever drove was a 1970 Challenger with a slightly modified 383. It was a blast, so my 462 set up might be down right wild for me at first. The first time I get the itch to punch it I'm finding a big open parking lot with no one around to figure out what the car does when I hammer it. So I don't end up on you tube in an epic fail video. I should make well over 500 horses, might even edge over 550. all hear say til it's dynoed one day nd who knows when I'll do that.

You'll hit 550 most likely. I'm using the same cam (288-92h), ported eddy's, and a measly 9.3:1 compression and hit 540 HP on a notoriously conservative superflow dyno. Joes heads even outflowed mine by a few cfms (probably somewhat negligible given different flow benches, no real way to tell). You'll be pleased I'm sure with the results if 550 is your goal.

Yes Shawn shared his numbers with me with his Edelbrock heads and I'm very excited.
I would love to have a lower compression motor with the type of power Shawn is getting.
I hope I can stay with 91 pump gas with my compression.

Speak for yourself Joe, I'm jealous of your compression!! Haha. I think if you get your timing dialed in you can pull it off. Also, don't know your area, but multiple local places around me have 93. Not sure if that's enough to really help, but can't hurt.

Yeah we have 93 where I'm at. And just do the dynamic compression ratio calculator Larry(the wizard) has posted on here. That should tell you if your cam selection and all will get you in the pump gas dynamic compression window.

I think 550 will be plenty for a mainly street car. Once I get the hang of it. I might just do a roller version of the 288-92h, EFI and a mini tub will be down the road along with another round of porting for the heads. All that should make over 600 horses on pump gas for me later, if I get around too it. But I think 550 will always keep me smiling, so if I don't get their I'm sure I won't mind to much.

And Shawn how much longer on that car, for it to be moving on its own power? My car is a mess currently. Sitting on Jack stands trying to conserve my tires for now. Hopefully by this Spring it will move on its own power. even if it looks like a serial killer car, I'm sure I'll be satisfied with it.

For Joe is this engine combo going in the black car in your title?

Goal is to drive it by my birthday (mid April). In the bodywork stage now, still gotta get the 4 speed linkages squared away, install the fuel system, a lot of little things. But my body guy/painter is chomping at the bit to get his hands on it, so hopefully soon.

Shawn maybe we could trade motors hahaha
I don't think we have 93 octane at our standard gas stations in Northern California
and I don't want to be limited to race gas.

I'm going to be using my TA 288-98H cam with these heads and I'm going to send
another set of Eddys to Jim to port again.

Jzuelly could you tell me what would my dynamic compression be with the 288-98h cam?

That sounds good. My B-day will be in June. All I want is to go to the down town square in Mckinney, Local town nearby and cruise. Set off car alarms echoing off the downtown buildings. Is that weird lol.

My paint and body guy will be me the first time round. I'm not so worried about a show car paint job. Just a good 10 footer. And my tranny is a racing turbo 400 I picked up from a local drag racer. It has the manual reverese valve body and the weakest element of it is suppose to be able to take 700 horses. My car will be a little frankenstein though. Its a Chevy turbo 400. It will have a modified F350 drive shaft in it as well.

Jzuelly no it's going to go in my white 70 GS. My black car is complete and has TA roller rockers
On a Jim Burek built 464. It has a really small cam, idles like stock but runs like a beast.
Nothing compared to this motor I would think though.

    Joe,

I'm on my work computer so I can't download the calculator here and don't have internet at home because I live out in the boonies. Larry calculated mine for me. I'll try and find the thread with it listed on their. Some people use Wallace Racings DCR calculator as well. If I remebr correctly if the cam is mild its gonna yield higher DCR for the given SCR(static). If you have high Static compression and want to get the DCR where you want it, you need over lap. I know JW did a build with the 290H striaght pattern cam from TA to drop the DCR into regular gas range to make over 500 horses. I think JW could assist you with this as well.

I'm going to try and figure it out myself. Jesse can you send me the formula and I'll look for a cam card for my TA 288-98H?

    Thanks Joe
