I want to sell my car, but I am afraid I won't get what I want for it. Is there an advantage to selling on eBay as opposed to other options? What I mean is, will I get a better price if I sell on eBay? Does anyone have experience in selling cars on eBay?

    Thanks,

    Adam

put a reserve on it so if bidding doesnt go high enough you dont have to sell. put a really low starting bid on it though.. like $500

I never thought of that...good call. I've done that with some of my other ebay items, but I am kinda worried about this one not getting the price I wanted. Slipped my mind.

But in anyone's opinion, does it seem that ebay has a price advantage to just selling it outright to someone who can walk up to the car? I'm not hiding anything, I just think it's a logical thing and I want some other folks' opinions.

The car I am going to sell is the one in my signature. The link provides all the information I can give over the internet without actually going to look at the car.

did you put it out front with a sign in the window yet? i sell more cars that way than advertising them in the paper.. if that doesnt work i would recommend putting it in the local auto trader.

I bought my car on eBay. Just provide an easy means for people to contact you, provide plenty of pictures, and welcome people wanting to make an appointment to see the car. Also, the "Buy It Now" option is worth using, it lets you set a fixed price that a person can buy it at, so long as the bidding hasn't exceeded the reserve price.

Be prepared, some people don't bid till the last minute, so it may seem slow up til the last couple days.

I'm definitely going to try the sign in the window trick. We have a great spot at the shop that loads of plant workers drive by everyday. We've sold about 6 cars there already. Definitely worth a shot for me to try it. If all else fails, ebay here I come!

    Ebay selling

I have sold a few vehicles on Ebay. It seems to be better for UNUSUAL/SPECIAL vehicles as the wide audience ebay has allows for more people to view your product. I sold a 4 wheel drive Van to Alaska last January. The guy got the winning bid in the last 10 seconds. He lived on an island in Alaska and has wireless internet!!!

Parts sell especially well as not everybody wants to or will go to a swap meet. Every now and then you can still get a bargain on ebay. It beats the hell out of driving, hotels, food and the bullshit of a swap meet. But I still go anyway as nothing beats a good JUNK MEET!!!

If the vehicle is basic transportation or nothing special, the old sign in the window/ad in the paper will work best. Nobody is going to travel over 200 miles to buy your vehicle when they may buy a similiar vehicle locally near their home.

However, if it is a GS they may come from everywhere!
