Smart man to put the reserve on it. I would not let that car go for less then $250.000.00. I think the four-speed detracts from these cars.

Oh man, let the fireworks begin.

Well good for you... ...I'm sure I could find many things wrong with your GN and rip on it...anonymously..behind your back, just like your doing to Johns car.

If your going to be critical of someone atleast have the guts to give them your name...

    BadBrad Got 4-speed?

Yep - a four speed does detract from these cars - it limits the potential buyers to only half the population - MEN!

OK - NOW let the fireworks begin!

    Okay......

The auction's over and the car didn't sell. (although it fetched a pretty nasty final price)

I'm sure it will pop up again or be sold privately...if comments need to be made, please see that they pertain to the car.

    Otherwise, let's move on....

    Thanks! :TU:

Most of the young girls I know drive manual transmission cars. You think the stick makes you macho? Think again. :Dou:

So why does it say in every price guide "add (insert number) for 4 speed" :Do No: I would modestly say a 4 speed would boost the price for a GS at least $5,000 or more. Perfect example would be Scott Miller's 70 GS basket case. Does anyone think it would have sold for 18,000 if it wasnt a 4 speed?

    We all have our opinions.

In my opinion a Buick is most desirable as an a/c, automatic, big block car and at the same time a Corvette is most desirable as a 4 speed, big block non a/c.

Pricing guide books are merely a loose structure for the masses and often do not include data from the high dollar private sales, and to quote a friend "a book never bought anything."

I think the future will see the most desirable classic Buicks as they were originally purchased in the 60's and 70's: the popular configuration being a nicely optioned car with a/c, big block and automatic - "Going Fast with Class".

Four speed cars are certainly very cool and do add a lot to the classic Buick mix. :3gears:

  10. I have paid close attention over the past few years to the prices of big block cars and small block cars, The manual transmission equipped cars always bring more money than a comparable automatic equipped car, no matter if it's a GS350 or a stage1. Bob

You really need to stop combing the high schools for young girls' opinions on musclecar values.

    The love of money

At least the white 4 spd X that just sold by a board member to a board member had the matching #s block with it and was 1/3 the money,I think this is the first 70 GSX I've seen sell on e-bay in a long time and we also know the seller and buyer so we know the deal is legit.I often wonder if these people bidding don't know the reserve by talking to the car owner during auction and only bid it up close to the reserve with no intention of spending,I know for a fact that this kinda bidding happens. To me and many others on this board these are cars not bank accounts or penis extensions. I can't believe the costant bickering and BS that continually goes on over these auctions when they come up. There seems to be a group of rich people that are getting their hands on these cars just for mainly investment purposes to enrich their portfolios and nothing less. I miss the days when Buick people were family orientated and they got these cars to drive and enjoy. Now a lot of our Buicks are just turning into garage queens, that's what used to seperate us from everyone else....Chris.

Okay guys, here is the juice right from thje horse's mouth. The previous owner will attest to the fact the engine is original to the car and John Osborne who did all the engine, transmission work, all mechanicals and also reassembled the car will verify that this is the original motor to the car and that after the block was cleaned you could make out the serial numbers. This car is legit down the line!

Don't explain yourself to anyone. You have an awesome car. I would not sell that GSX for less than $250,000.00. :beer

Not an opinion, a fact :Smarty: I think all will agree as some have already. And that fact holds true no matter what musclecar your talking about. Not just GS's. I agree with Fred, when your talking about a car of this caliber a 50,000+ premium for the 4 speed is right on

If I may ask. If you believe the market would demand a 50k premium for a 4-speed stage 1 X over an automatic. Then what do you believe the market is for such a car. 175k,250k, 300k.

I personally would not pay a 50k premium on a car that right now might be in the 200k range.

If the cars a 500k Hemi-cuda, I could see the difference.

I'm not trying to criticize the post. It just seems 50k is a big premium!

John called me before he put it up for sale and told me what he wanted. I told him I felt he was looking for 4spd money and I still believe that. In many cases there is a 30 to 40 percent add for 4spd. I do this for a living and have for the past 20 years. John has a good car and if he had a real bidder I think that was a lot of money for an automatic. I am not a broker. I buy and sell these cars with my own money and try to buy the very best that I can get John knows this and that is why he called me. We just have a difference of opinion on the market value at this time.
