I don't know if this is the car or not, but my buddy Jim Hawthorne kept trying to buy a 70 White GSX from a local guy in S. Jersey. The guy had it parked in his driveway and would not even talk to him about selling it. It was sitting there for years and was never touched. If this seller bought it locally it could be the same car. Personally I never saw the car, and that is all the info I have. Duane
You all might remember this video posted last year. Edit: Marc posted it seconds prior lol! Both the video and ad say the car has sat since 1973. I love the work the guy did to it, especially blending the new quarter in lacquer. Someone is going to get a nice car.
It is remarkable for sure, all of it, to take it from the barn find condition (not gone... but pretty grim) to the current eBay condition (very nice as far as the pictures show). Certainly exceeds my capability as I would have assumed a fairly major restoration was the only way on this one and I would have been wrong. I wonder why he stopped where he did? There are a few easy quick wins left undone. Nevertheless, excellent preservation without a restoration.
That's the one. Same crooked radiator cover sticker. Hope the seller held on to the original radiator.
Some things that have been replaced/repaired: hood tach (now white) Radiator (alum) Grille (repaired or replaced) Not nitpicking, just curious if he kept the original pieces. Based on the length he went to preserve as much as possible, my bet is he kept everything he took off. I love this car
Looks like a neat car. Put a correct radiator in it and burn gas and have fun. So what kind of camera these days takes such horrible photos? My flip phone camera in 2005 was better than that. Very strange to have such a cool car and can't bother to barrow a iphone for 12 photos in focus for the eBay ad so I can drool over them?
Awesome car. I agree, he did a good job trying to keep most of the car original in appearance with the exception of the radiator and hood tach color. I'm not a paint and body expert, but do you think the way it was done (spot metal replacement/spot painted) will last, or will the rust start bubbling up in a few years? The video shows some pretty significant rust/rot which reminded me of the GSX I bought in 2004. Once it was stripped, it went from looking pretty solid to very rotten and needed a lot of metal work. I would love to have it and tweak it some for the reunion next year, but I'm guessing it's going to take $100k to buy it...
I think the price is being set by a shill bidder. That person has bid 50 times, all in $300.00 increments.
Mostly original paint yeah right he polish the mirrors and painted the rest he wanted 50 K for the way it sat with non numbers matching motor.
Same car alright, I would have rather he didn’t touch it for the price he wants. Who knows what kind of hack job repair work was done to it now :-(
Is it a NOM car for certain? The ad lightly implies it is the original engine "Freshened engine. (still Std.)", not a direct affirmation it is original of course but his use of "still Std." made me assume it might well be the born with engine. However, lack of a direct statement on that detail and clever language like this tends to mean it is not I realize that. I have nothing against NOM cars at all but the price I would be willing to pay changes substantially.
Interesting, I was thinking the recent Vannoy and subsequent re-auction at Indy of that really nice Apollo base 455 auto car has set a different market level. Maybe not?
