Anyone know how many Skylarks received the pointed instrument lenses in 1970? Just curious.

I think the changing point was Jan 1,1970 . Before ,the gauge lens, rad cover and over flow jug are different. The big cars had changes also , the rad covers and the wagons had pointed back up light lens, isn't that just peachy?!!!!!!!1

    Bill is right,
The change over started sometime at the end of Nov 69 and finished by Jan 1970. This is based on info from looking at original cars over the years.

My first car-a 70 Custom had the pointed guage lens as well as the big 69 style steering wheel-the one with the square horn pad. How many steering wheel were there in 70- 3?

tlivingd my was born 10-09-69 in flint.i dont have the 3 pc. radiator cover or the clear top overflow,i got rid of them years ago,at the time i thought the metal cover looked better. i see you have the correct pcs. if anybody has a clear top overflow and 3 pc. cover for sale i'd be interested.mine also had the same steering wheel. that was the same wheel they used in 69 and 70,and maybe up to 72 im not sure. doug

    Nate,

That is the 3 piece radiator support that you have. Mine must of have been built in late 69, I have the pointed lenses, clear overflow jug and the rectangle steering wheel.

I changed the steering wheel to the GS Rally wheel, and the I also installed the steel 1 piece radiator support, fits much better and I also have it chromed.

For late Nov to end of Dec 69 cars I have seen any and all combinations of flat/pointy lenses, steel/plastic radiator cover, and clear/black lid overflow jug. It appears that as parts ran out the new style parts were introduced. Many other changes happened around this time including the replacement of the "Tri-shield" rear courtesy light lenses with the concentric circle design.

    Hey guys,

What about the 2 piece front rotors. Did all 70 Skylarks / GS cars that had disc brakes use them or just the early ones. I've got a 70 Skylark with all the above plus the 2 piece front rotors & single piston caliper.

    Thanks, Wes

Dunno about the discs....Nate, I Swear To God I'll ship you those gauges, brother. I hope i haven't screwed you up on this thing. Things have been a little crazy here.

I have the pointed lenses, the clear overflow cover and I still have the original steering wheel....didn't know it was a '69 wheel. My rad support was one piece steel in '89 when I bought the car, but it's a safe bet that somebody just replaced it with the standard one. The only parts I've gotten off the car with dates all say '69...but I don't have the original engine or tranny anymore. I do have the body tag...and would the sequence number tell me if it's a legit early '70 car? I'm pretty certain it is, the only thing I'm lacking is the rad support, and the guy who sold me the car didn't know anything about Buicks, why would he swap out the gauges and overflow to fool me on something neither one of us knew about at the time?

    Duane,

My 70 GS455 has a 12-12-69 build. So it could be possible that it could have a factory black topped overflow tank lid instead of the clear one? Car does have pointed gauge lens, plastic radiator cover, tri shield rear interior light lens. Thanks!

My 70 was bought new on Feb 3, 1970.
It had the pointed lenses, plastic 3 pc rad cover, clear top tank and 1/4 lenses with the cirlces. Have to check the build date, but seem to recall it is late December 1969.
69-70 steering wheels should be the same for both the deluxe and rallye wheel. Rim blow was first year 1970.
The big horn buttons are slightly different from 69 to 70. Have to check which, but one year had the spring on the wires and the other had the spring in the steering column cancel cam.
69-70 rallye wheels are larger diameter than 71 on up.
Just what I have found and I am sure there are oddball changes too.

Hey chris no problems. Sometimes you can't rush free stuff.

I'm trying to get my oil leak taken care of FINALLY DONE!! I didn't have anything left for a main seal. only leaked about 1 qt of oil per tank of gas... though I put over 4000 miles on it leaking. (everything is now covered in oil.)

I'll have to find a place in milwaukee who does engine detailing cheap :Brow: they sometimes run specials on it for a flat fee

also replaced the timing chain and the timing was one tooth off. set my points and finally set the timing correctly. and rebuilt the oil pump and added a booster plate.

and she purrs like a kitten

I just need to put the pass. fender back on (also replaced the heater core (talk about a bizzo) and blower motor.)

I have that style wheel on my 70 also, would it have been correct for Gs also?
Or did all Gs's come with Ralley wheels.
I hate the damn thing, when you put the buckets forward it beeps the horn, have to remember to adjust the headrest before I put the seat up!

That wheel is correct for a 70 GS. It was called the Deluxe Steering wheel. It may have been standard on 455 cars (?), but I know that it was optional for 350 cars. Rallye wheel was option for all.
