The silver side. The heat comes from the block and the silver side being more heat resistant is designed to go against the block.
Those Fel Pro gaskets are actually made for use with cast iron manifolds. Theyre especially handy when the manifold gasket surfaces are a little marginal
Using those with iron manifolds is a short term fix. They will start leaking and then they will crack. Take the manifold to a machine shop and they can resurface it cheaply. ( big ass belt sander) Install them metal to metal.
Correct! and I agree, thats the right way to fix it. But sometimes that's not always convenient. When your working in your driveway and there isn't time to wait a week for manifolds to get it resurfaced, these work. Like everything else, they have their place. They're installed in my beater. It had a manifold leak when I got it. When I got the manifolds off, the gasket surfaces were pretty well pitted. Not even sure if a resurface would of saved them. Those manifold gaskets did the trick. Was it a band aid? Absolutely. But they haven't leaked since in three years of use. My Aquamist car will get the resurfacing treatment though
Not only that, he said he has headers! Those will work for his headers for a little while, if he gets lucky they might even work for years like they did for Jason?(doubt it though with headers)
Yes, you definitely don't want to use those with headers! Like Tom Said, Remflex for the win. You can even kick it old school and use the Old Mr Gasket 651's
used headers on a 350 for 15 yrs. always used fel-pro. never any issues, even with a supercharger. maybe I'm still doing the wrong things to a 350 to make them go.....????
Too late, they're already on. Will deal with leaking issues as it comes. Need to get this thing running asap.
