Very nice! : ) I think I still have an NOS air cleaner to mine buried in the barn. Loved that air cleaner!

Jim -- the parts do not belong to the OP on this Board. This thread is a lead. You will need to contact the seller through CL.

Are those air cleaners really bringing that kind of $$?

It looks to be in similar condition to the one I bought for $15. But that was in 1982 dollars. Ahhh, the good ole days!

I have never understood the demand market for the 2 x 4 stuff. Having said that, I remember some guy in Michigan and another guy in Indiana that went by the name "Cat's Lair" who tried hoarding these years ago and cornering the market on them - I am talking the manifolds, carbs, aircleaner that stuff. Back in the 90's a complete set up to plop on your 401 or 425 was $1250 or so. I was buying whole car for less than that.

I get it though, the cool factor of the 2 x 4 set up. It's just not worth it to have even if you have stupid money.

I wonder whatever happened to that guy in Michigan? I know he got banned from a couple of websites, maybe even Hemmings. Cat's Lair was pi**ed at me I ended up selling to the guy in Michigan (I was douped). Randy was his name (Michigan) ? Randy R I think. He would give some sob story about wanting that air cleaner to complete a car his grandpa wanted finished before he died of cancer or something. What a line of bull.

Then Cat's Lair who was nice to me, said after I sold to Randy, "You are DEAD in the Buick world" I will make sure your life is a living hell!"

Right then and there I determined that if I ever owned a 2x4 eligible car again that I would be OK with a single 4 barrel! I did buy a 64 Electra convertible with a 425 and a 2 x 4 but except for putting an air filter in it and maybe spraying in gum out, I never did anything to it. I drove it for about 2 years and traded it for a 1964 Lesabre convertible. I drove it to Montana to do the trade. It was that huge salvage yard in Whitehall Montana that closed about 2 years ago.

I never knew what happened to that car. I remember seeing it on ebay in continuous loop for like $6500. (I paid $1000 for it)

I guess if a person like Randy or Cat's Lair hoarded these Nailhead "speed" parts years ago, they have seen price increases that would mirror the stock exchange, I guess, but that's not how I want to be involved in the hobby.

I visited this wrecking yard in 2012 and picked up some things for mine. This yard was phenomenal.......... the owner, not so much!

That's my old car. I bought it for $1000 outside of St Louis Missouri, drove it for maybe 2 years. Rear window plastic was shot but top was OK when I had it. 425 dual quad, posi, original motor, carbs, chrome air cleaner. It started to burn oil bad so I knew it had to go. I could have parted it out or sold it for more than $1000 but made a deal with Neil to trade my car for his 64 LeSabre and paid $800 for a new convertible top on his car.

You are correct he was not a good guy. They basically took a car that looked like my red car in your photo above, somehow got it running and they were not ready for me when I got there. Despite me driving my car 1700 miles to them.

ha ha Ted. No I get it they have a real cool factor. I loved my 64 Electra BUT what I am just expressing a personal opinion that I personally can not justify spending sometimes 20% of the cost of an already well performing 64-66 Buick for a few extra hp. My 425 was weak, so I was always a little afraid of stomping on it, except when the neighborhood had excess mosquitoes.

When parts become a little more in demand than the cars, that worries me a bit.

Hey Ted, if you are in the scrapping mood I'll go ahead and take them off your hands. Heck I'll even pick them up. You can't beat a deal like that! Ha-ha!!

Bryan - my father shares your opinion- he has never been moved by the cool factor either. Even Denny Manner mentioned
how crummy they were to tune vs a single 4 bbl! I told him I had a dual quad 4-speed and that was the first thing he said.
I'm upside down in every project so the spending part for me is disconnected from end results. That is also where my father
(86 yo hot rodder) and I split. He wants roi.
