Not kind of, that's how Hydramatic did it. I know Mark personally, the BB valve body is exactly what he was talking about in that article. I also remember Denny Manner telling us how he had to fight with Hydramatic to get that calibration, they didn't want to do it, I guess because of longevity concerns. Between you and me though, with the BBB engines we are building today, where 500 HP is easy with aluminum heads, that calibration would get you sideways on the street, drag radials or not.:D. You'd have a hard enough time controlling it in second gear, never mind first.

Thanks for the clarification, that was his comment! As soon as i read it came back to me. Cool to better understand how it happens. Mine is not 500hp but runs pretty good. Taking radial and slipping them clean through 2nd. Even starting out easy then getting on it sends them smoking when it shift to second. I haven't confirmed what RPM it reaches when it drops to 1st because it seems so high i pedal it to shift to 2nd again. I'm sure this design is one of many reasons not to many numbers matching 70 stage 1 engines are around:)

Alright, I finally got around to replacing the kickdown solenoid in the trans. Would have been much easier on a lift but you gotta do with whatcha got. In my case, that's the garage floor. Anyways, I remedied the downshift issue. Not only is the trans downshifting smoother, it is downshifting up to 60 MPH. Before, it was intermittent between 45-50 MPH, sometimes it would downshift, other times it wouldn't. I'm going to have a lot more fun.
