I’ve been extra paranoid about leaving my car out in the open lately, especially while at work. So, we worked on some extra security for my ‘69 today, by splicing a momentary switch into our ignition wire under the dash. So..in order to start the car - i’ll need to turn the key and press the button on the switch.

Interesting thing about it was, was where to put the button? Didn’t seem right to just mount it under the dash, that would be the first place anyone would feel for it? Then we figured it out - what about the lighter! Don’t really use the lighter anymore, so we went to fabricating the lighter housing to fit the switch. Drilled out the end of the lighter unit and shortened the casing about 1/2 inch and brought the switch in from behind, right up the middle. Frigin’ worked...looks like a lighter. Added a pic. but didn’t get a picture of each step of fabricating, but you can get the jist of it. It’s kind weird to have reach under the steering column with the left hand and turn the key with the right, but hey - i’ll get used to it.

Great idea. I know a car, 1960's era Comet where the owner installed a second dimmer switch, wired it into (?) and used it as an anti-theft switch.
