Any interior gurus know if I can use another B-body door panel backer for my 68 wildcat conv? I know that no one makes the door panel itself but I'm hoping I can use Impala (or another B-body backer panel) as a base for a refurb?? Mine have water damage, etc. I could graft on some luan plywood to make my own but that's more time and money.... If someone has real-world expertise, please chime in.

I've used Formica in the ast with good results & it's thinner than Luan.

Lauan isn't the best to work with. Most of it has an almost spongy core, and even if you find real 3-ply laminated Lauan, it splinters into long shards along the edge easily. If you are careful, and break the edges / waterproof it, it should work fine. It's about the same thickness as many original door backers.
Laminate (Formica) is an interesting idea. It's inherantly waterproof, but how do you secure the door upholstery to it, and do the ultra thin edges ever cut into the wrapped upholstery over time?

Just round over the edges. Glue works wonders. Most upholstery shops glue everything together with no problems.
