Sorry off topic.... Went to Tmobile to get a quote on a plan. They wanted SS number, driver's license number, address, date of birth, address, email. Credit check. To do a quote. Looked like she did Docusign for me....and created a password. I thought all to get accurate quote..... I leave not agreeing to anything. Come home have emails from Tmobile saying I'm signed up for autopay and have contract documents to view. WTF? And a new phone number to boot! Call Tmobile and they say I have to wait for first bill and then can only go to store to dispute. I feel violated...and stupid.....
Check to see if your state has a 3 day grace period to cancel the contract and unwind the deal. Call the consumer protection division of you states Attorney General. Do not wait to contest.
Letter to your State Attorney General? Probably happened to others. UticaGeoff Jim - you posted the same time as me!
And, don't forget to check the Better Business Bureau for ratings. Also, a call to a local TV station that does investigative reporting could help.
Sadly you are not alone @BQUICK There is tremendous pressure on the salespeople to close new accounts. As you can see from my avatar I have some domain expertise with phones 1) DO NOT WAIT FOR THE FIRST BILL. It's common for mobile carriers to have a grace period on any contract. 2) Act immediately (tonight and again in the AM) and be sure to document the time and person you spoke to -- even better reply in e-mail as well. If they will not act on your complaint, let them know you are contacting the attorney general's office and then do so in the AM. The sooner you act the better. The AG's office will not take their crap It's a game to tell you to wait. Once you wait you are stuck with all their penalties etc. I would also go back to the store and find that salesperson -- you need to confront them. Don't get abusive -- just make it clear you wanted the situation resolved... They are praying on your ignorance -- don't let them! FYI -- here is T-mo's return policy https://www.t-mobile.com/responsibility/legal/return-policy
verizon did the same to me basically..was such a mess to get it cancelled etc..although i will say customer support lady was awesome..they called the manager of the store and it was a 3 way call..she scolded him pretty hard...i enjoyed it...i never agreed to anything, no signatures etc...i won the argument but it sucked getting it handled...the lady was super cool..and sh even followed up after the matter too phone companys are scared of the words FCC complaint... and state attorney general... the weasel that was taking care of my acct just loaded me up...i ended up getting money back actually..never really figured out why either..but i took it
The sales technique known as slamming is well documented and regulated: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/fcc-rules-ban-deceptive-practices/?amp
Wake up at 3am, couldn't sleep, check my email and I've got 8 emails from Walmart from items I DIDN'T purchase. They all have my billing address and my email and a Visa card last 4 digits that I don't recocognize. Purchases of sewing machine, set of tires, gas heater, etc. Going to Puerto Rico, Texas, Tennesee, Wisconsin. Call Walmart and actually talked to a person who looked up my account. Said they couldn't give me the whole CC number or what bank it was with! Said best thing to do was change password on Walmart acct or close Walmart acct. I opted for latter. They cancelled 5 of them but 3 had already shipped. I guess someone got a CC number but how could it go thru with my billing address? I guess they accessed my acct and added it. I guess my identity is hosed?
My wife had a similar thing happen at Verizon a few months ago. She went in to change our personal account over to a business account. The salesman tried to get her to sign up for all kinds of extra features but she said no to all of them. That night when she got home she went online to check our account. The salesman had signed her up for all of the features that she had said she didn't want. She immediately called Verizon and the lady she talked to removed all the unwanted stuff from our account. If my wife had not checked, we would not have know until we got our first bill.
Several months back I got a email saying my Walmart items ordered on line were ready for pickup. I didnt order and items that day or even that month. the pick up location was at a store 50 miles away. Big TV's, other electronics and 2 drones. I called my local store and they refused to do anything about it. I called the pick up location store and they verified the order and said that they would give the items to who ever showed up to claim them. I called the police dept in that town and asked if they would look into it and again was told no. So heres the deal. Someone hacked my Wally World account, ordered stuff , and the store knowing it was theft was willing to give the merch to the thief. Ended up calling Walmart corp and they finally canceled the transactions. I removed all my stored info off the site and changed the passwords.
Let the butt chewing begin. Well it's real bad what people will do to get their commission. Very sorry this happened.
I learned my lesson to be cautious with online purchases back in 2007. I booked a trip up to San Francisco through Orbitz for decent hotel in the center of the city. When we arrived the hotel clerk couldn't find our reservation and the confirmation number I had was saying that everything was cancelled. The ended up comping me the room and we had a nice 3 day trip. Fast forward to when my credit card bill came and there was 7 different charges for 7 different hotels (none for the one I stayed at) for the same weekend. Total amount of erroneous charges was a little over $6,000. Orbitz said tough s**t they are legitimate reservations and refused to do anything about it. So I went through American Express and their fraud department. Ended up getting all but about $1,200 credited back. Sucked but after that I was very cautious on what I bought and from who. To this day I still don't use Orbitz.
