Hey guys, I'm still collecting parts for my nailhead project. This bellhousing (is this the correct word?) is for sale over here. Are there differences between the several years or does it fit to my 64 401? What is a common price for that in the US? http://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/buick-nailhead-getriebeglocke-hot-rod-ford-model-a-v8/397018447-223-7714
The part number, 1345121, identifies it as a 1953-56 bellhousing. It fits the 264 and 322. It's a different diameter than the 401 and won't fit.
Very pricey! usually $400+. They are tough to find. 63-66 ones don't use the usual clutch fork. If you don't have the correct linkage, a hydraulic throwout might be a good choice. EELCO and Bendtsens made them in aluminum, similar price range. http://www.transmissionadapters.com/ There's a steel race-certified one out there too, about $600. Lots of pics on Russ's site: http://nailheadbuick.com/transadaptors
Thanks again, Walt, I noticed the Eelco and Bendtsens before. But if I don't have to order it from overseas, I would love to save the shipping and look around over here. Sadly I will have to get it from the US I think. There's nearly nothing to find around here.
Freight costs pretty much doubled the cost of restoring my dodge Just anther toy tax, but the guys that deliver this stuff have to eat as well I am in Perth as well Mick
