Does this crank look like it will take a pilot?

  1. Hello, all! I was hoping someone here could tell whether or not this 350 crank would need to be machined in order to accept a pilot bushing. Unfortunately this was taken over 5 years ago and if I ever measured the hole I've since lost the measurements. The engine is in my car with a 200-4R hooked up.

The engine is a '76 so I know it's not likely, but I don't know the history of the engine. I'm told it was out of a Buick Century. I tried to find pictures of auto vs manual cranks online but got nothing.

Looks like it would take a pilot bearing but you might need to machine the bearing od. Get a caliper and measure up the crank end to see if it's been final drilled

  3. As it turns out, basically yes.
Time will tell, but a regular Chevy bushing will begin to insert.

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

I would clean it up with 80 grit. I cut a strip and tape it to a socket so it is a snug fit and use an extension and twist enough to clean it the rust use a bit of ATF.

Then mic the bore and the OD of the bushing. .0005 is where you want to be.

I drive them in with a pully puller. Beating them in can distort them and "close up" the inner diameter.
