Does a TA 413 cam require notched pistons?

These cams sound so good! I regret not putting this cam in my build over the 284-88h I chose. Are you guys running stock rockers or have you switched to rollers? I bet this thing screams all the way up the powerband through 6k!

I used TA HD rocker shafts with hold down clamps.

I used this cam with 430 rockers, 455 rockers with heavy duty shafts and both stock 72 pistons and sealed power forged.

It’s interesting to hear you guys running this cam with stock pistons. I spoke to Tim at TA Performance yesterday and he said the duration was too long on the exhaust side and that there would be clearance issues. He recommended the TA310 instead. I can’t find any sound clips of one in a 455. Not being fluent in “cam specs” language, I’m wondering how this compares to the 413. I remember the Wizard and several others writing in a thread I read moons ago about the benefits of a split duration cam vs the straight pattern the 310 provides. Anyone have any first hand experience or knowledge to share?

The better your head flow is, the less you need the split duration. Are you using the TA aluminum heads?

Wizard, short answer is yes. I’ll update the thread I posted about head swap questions as to not hijack the OPs thread on the 413. Thanks for the help gents.

My experience with one in a stock low mileage 70 455 was pretty impressive,...sp1 intake 850 holley 32° 3200 stall 373 gear 67 chevelle ran 7.70s in the 1/8 he bracket raced it every week
I bought it that's how I know it fits ,...I took it apart

Hugger, I’m not doubting you that it fits! I’m actually happy to hear that it does. I wonder why Tim at TA Performance said no. I suppose it’s best to Er on the side of caution since the tolerances would be tight. And I’m sure he has to take into account those people who just plug cams in “dots matching” without decreeing them and checking clearances.

sounds like that chevelle was a fun car! I bet people snubbed their noses at the sight of a chevrolet scooting under the big Buick torque! That’s awesome!
