Dodge Durango opinions?

We are going to replace the wife's SUV sometime this year. We need something that can tow a 4000 lb. boat.

I like the looks of the Dodge Durango but I have been a GM guy my whole life so I know nothing about them. I almost bought a Ram a few years ago but stuck with the Silverado. I don't need the high performance model, and want to keep the price reasonable.

There should be plenty of opinions out there but are there any owners with real world information on dependability?

This is pretty much what the wife would pick.

I like them myself but do not own one. A friend has one and they really like it. I do think they have a sportier look and agree with you on that. Good luck with whatever you decide!

We’re on our second Durango. I traded in my wife’s 2015 SXT for a 2018 Citidel. We love it. I did a lot of research before buying it. The V6 has 295 hp, it’s rwd and has a 6200 lb towing capacity. I chose it over the Jeep Cherokee because of the 3rd row and over the Tahoe because of the smaller size....makes it easier to handle for my wife. Has all the bells and whistles... heated and cooled seats. Heated steering wheel. We chose the captain rear seats. Had WIFI, entertainment package (DVD player and screens, comes with Bluetooth headphones), XM radio, navigation system, has the towing package, front and rear collision sensors...it’ll automatically apply the brakes if you get too close to something too fast. I really like the turn radius also...drives much smaller than it is. And the V6 isn’t much slower than the V8 in the 1/4 if I’m not mistaken. That saves like 8 grand I think.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

I would read owner reviews. Have you checked out Tahoes?

I have time to do more research. Never been able to afford a Tahoe and don't need something that big (length/width).

Currently the wife is driving a 2008 GMC Envoy and prior to that she had a 2003 Envoy so she likes that size and style vehicle. Our boat is actually around 2800 lbs and we would never ever attempt to tow our 5500 lb camper with it.

Ever consider an Explorer? I had a '15 and liked it well enough to buy a 2019. Properly equipped they will tow 5000 lbs. At least worth a look.

Fella I work with has one (actually his wife's DD but he drives it once in a while). They've only had it a little over a year, so the honeymoon period may not be over yet, but he said so far they're very happy with it.

We bought ours in October of 2013 as a 2014 model. Its a V-6 Limited with Most of the options. We previously owned a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee but needed the extra space. We have had a few issues with it but nothing that would stop me from getting another. All around it has been a good vehicle for what we use it for.

I've got a 2003 with 110,000 miles .I drive it to work and back. It's got the 4.7 L V8. I had to put a radiator in it about ten years ago. That's the only trouble I've had from it.
I had a 2002 4.7L V8 . I used it for my surveying work, mostly on the pavement. A little off road work. At 150,000 miles a cam shaft seized. The valves on that head were all bent (no clearance). The engine had already began burning oil. So, that was it for the 2002.
I liked both of them .
They're good cars for everyday use. Maybe not for more severe service.

Still casually looking, no real rush. Found a few out of our area (300 miles) optioned the way we want it so I am going to wait until one shows up locally or the dealer incentives pick up. I have the luxury of time on my side.

I have a 2012 R/T awd and tow with it and love it as my daily. also did some upgrades like exhaust, cai, brakes and rotors.Only thing i did was just changed a leaky thermostat and replaced all 16 plugs to iridium.
