    J.Staged My Therapy...!!

    Class in Session ;..I always told my son and daughter street racing will catch up with you,.. so refrain from it I will take you to the track,..Soooo.. last year me and my son( 15 yrs old) went down to the Fort St. cruise here in MI. on Friday and cruised in our 72 buick skylark, street - strip car, mainly street driven 90 % of the time to enjoy the site and sounds of the other cars and the people..
    During the evening it seems like we always get picked on for a little stop light- 1,2 shift, 50 yard dash to see who has the better car,...uum ok,...it happens.. Me being the buick believer that I am I can't help myself sometimes, then seeing the look on my son's face ..big grin....me thinking... he's loving this... not good.. Im still telling him ..you better not be street racing..yea right..

    Now late that evening its dark, at one end of the cruise ( 4 cities long),,where traffic is lite, we pull up next to a 67 nova , caged ,wheelie bars , sounding real healthy.. we seen him beat up on some other fast looking cars earlier that day...me thinking Im the next victum...Mind you,.. cops set everywhere in this particular city and heavy during the cruise mainly setting sight unseen on the side streets..

    The 67 nova driver grins at me revs his motor and I ( brain fart) agree and nod my head. We hit it at a 20 roll, I short shift 2nd gear still squirlly trying to hold it in my lane (drag radials) , start pulling him top of 2nd gear, shift into 3rd and pull away from him by a car...then proceed to slow down..
    I look in my rear view mirror and not a car around but people were on the curb cheering and screaming just because of the race..
    Now Im shaking, looking for a cop, my son grinning ear to ear and low and behold a black car following me.. a cop...son now scared..not smiling..and now txting mom and his buddy's..

    The police officer was a 30 ish young guy and was polite and I hand him the paper work,..time go's by his backup shows up on a Harley police bike and starts grinning at me..in a little trouble huh... I say,.yea..
    BTW. the other guy(67 nova) was never pulled over...he just turned in the median and went the other way..

    The one P.O. said, wow you really got squirilly back there you need to keep your car in bettrer control,.. me dumb look, says yea .. I usually do.. Now the cop says,.. I was surprised you pulled that nova... that was good.. but don't get loose like that no more tonight... OK.. and thats a sweet looking buick.. ME:: thanks, Im smiling now.. OK.., Cop: Have a good night..
    BTW. the cop tells me he's building a 90's mustang... the whole time the word RACE never came out of nobody's mouth..

    I get in the car my son says,.. he let you go.. yep my lucky night,.. must of been the gray hair..
    Me talking.... son, if this would have been you driving,.. you wouldnt be driving off like we are right now...Street driving will lose your car and jail time. He could have give me reckless driving and child endangerment, your under 16, a near miss for sure..

    ~~~~ We go back out on Saturday to the cruise, out of know where the guy driving the 67 nova comes up to our car and ask if we got a ticket last night, and I say no...he was surprised... but then he ask what size chevy motor I had,..I SMILE and say its a 462 buick motor,.. hes says no way.. yep...My buddy's arent going to believe this..
    My son now has a big Grin on his face...
    I still tell my son.....
    So don't do as I do-- but do as I say..
    Good story. :bglasses: Too bad I wasn't a very good listener as a teenager. :spank: Thankfully I never got busted for any sort of ahem, acceleration testing in those days. :laugh:
    Talk about being in the hot seat! I was holding my breath while I was reading it!
    Reminds me of being with a friend (who's dad really is a cop)
    Fresh drivers, about 17 yrs old
    no racing but we were over the speed limit.. by about 30 km/h (this was when I still lived at home in Canada).
    We get pulled over, and the PO takes my friends information... goes back to the car.
    When he returns, he says.... Are you Inspector Penney's son? He replies..."Yes"
    The cop says "Whats gonna be harder, paying the $250 ticket or telling your father?"
    My buddy says... "Telling Dad"
    He let us go... what a relief!
    I know I never had luck like that thankfully the laws went as strict back then but anyone that remembers the Oakland County Mi Sheriff's department in the late 70's would know they weren't known for their sense of humor.
    It doesn't matter what you tell your kids, or how many times they see you "test your acceleration" :Brow: Kids will be kids, and do what they want. My dad tried very hard not to ever race, burnout, or even rev the engine too loud around me. He dropped the ball when we bought the Buick though. During the test drive he "accidentally" did a burnout. Yea right and I "accidentally" did about 4 more after you fell asleep.
    Great story :TU: Glad you didn't get the ticket. Reading it reminded me of how many times I've been in your seat when I was younger. The best one was when I had a `67 GTO 400HO and raced a `70 Z28 and got pulled over. The cop was nice and told me he was going to give me a break and let me go this time as long as I left town and he didn't see me again the rest of the night, only because he'd done the same stuff when he was younger. No problem....bye :) But before I left I asked him why he pulled me over instead of the Camaro. His response, with a grin on his face, was, "Because you won" :grin:
