Has anyone done the disc brake conversion on a 72GS? Is there a different master cylinder? What all is needed for this conversion?
I have the spindles, calipers, pads and the rotors, what else do I need?
    Any help would be appreciated.

You will need the disc brake master cylinder and proportioning valve, preferrably from the same or similar donor car.

I do have the proportioning valve as well come to think of it. Do you know if the master cylinder is available new or rebuilt from maybe Pep Boys or Auto Zone? Is there a Buick vendor that stocks them?

Sorry for the sixty questions, it's been a while since I've owed one of these cars, I just bought this car from a guy in Kansas City last week so it's time for some upgrades.
I've been driving a GN for the last 6 years and I haven't had a GS car since 93. But it's nice to be back! :beer

Go to Chevelles.com and their tech section. There is a boatload of information on disc brake conversion and upgrades. Do a search to have all your questions answered.

    Yes, and No

Although you can get a master from Pep Boyz, etc. that will fit and function just like original, the chances of actually getting one that looks original and correct are slim.
If that's not important to you then don't worry about it.

I would also recommend a booster since you are probably going to want power assist, arent you?
Those are also available at your local parts houses as well.

    Re: Yes, and No

The car is already a clone, so being original is not that important.
Power assist would be nice but not necessary.

Earlier today I was over at a friend of mines house looking at his 70 X, it looked like it had the exact same master cylinder, but his had power of course could this be right? I had always remembered the cylinder being much skinnier I have owned several GS' with both power brakes and non power and don't remember the MC being that big?

I bought this car last weekend and when I popped the hood, it was the master cylinder that caught my eye because of it's size
The guy said it came off of a vette? And now looking at my friends X it looks to be the same one?

    Welcome to the board

I do not want to turn you off to this board. Just trying to help you with your questions? There are other boards with general A body questions answered in more detail than on this board. If it's Buick specific, this is the place. Camaro.net has even more brake information and most applies to our A body cars as the only thing different between our 69-72 cars and 69-72 camaro disc brakes are the steering arms.

    Happy New Year.
