Looks like GM is rolling out Direct Injection gasoline engines. Anyone toying with this idea on a buick v8? Atleast from what I watch regarding Hyundai's system there is a 12% increase in power output over MPFI. Please chime in if you know much about these systems I am curious about the pros vs cons (in technology) not necessarily implementation on a v8buick yet.

    Thanks

I don't know any current aftermarket EFI systems that can drive the direct injection injector or work in the super short pulsewidths that direct injection requires. Standard EFI holds the injectors open up to 85% of the time at high loads and that time is reduced to a millisecond or so at high rpm.

The other technical hurdle is pressuring the fuel up to diesel like levels (1,000-1,200psi?), which pretty much needs to be done mechanically. The GM V engines use a tri-lobe or such on the cam shaft to drive the mechanical high pressure fuel pump like a diesel.

The biggest hurdle I see currently is the ECU, not that the machining of a head for a direct injection system with custom valve covers, and a custom cam with an appropriate lobe with a custom timing cover with the high pressure pump system is easy, but I think there are more people capable of doing the physical work than the electrical work.

Not having to worry about pre-ignition (this assumes you can actually tune it properly) is pretty good for though running high compression for a lot of power and excellent combustion efficiency. And clearly between the diesel's and gas direct injection engines, some good HP can still be made, especially since injector technology allows high rpm.

Gm is a tad late toyota and another brand that slipped my mind is swaying away from direct injection due to I think it was sludge
They're doing a hybrid setup half injectors in Intake the other half direct inject. .

Currentyl aftermarket efi setups dont support gdi yet.,
They do support I think up to 32 injectors now though..or was in 24?

Dry intake setups suck, already cars on the road with tons of gunk and buildup in the intakes and back side of valves because of this.

Yep thats why some companies such as toyota has a hybrid port/gdi injection setup
    Everything stays clean that way

Yeah, I knew it was stupid high, but didn't know the actual number, just it would require a mechanical pressurization.
