    Brett and Yardley:

On their recent inventory sheet CARS has several NOS thrust washers, side pinion for 63-70 Rivs with Eaton concave posi(1385734) and seal pinion, bearing 63-70, all except special and skylark(1382664). There are many other parts listed for the bigger Buicks.

I just finished pulling all the bearings off the pinnion and carrier. I checked all the numbers in the bearing kit from Raetech and sure enough, everyone matched what they said it would be. in addition, the physical description of the crush collar was exactly what he said it would be. Come monday morning, I'll be ordering myself a full bearing and installation kit from them.

I do have a couple other questions though.

    1. The posi unit in this differential, is it rebuildable? I don't plan on doing it anytime soon, just in case it would ever need to be done, is it possible? Or is this a non-rebuildable unit. It looks to be a bolt together housing, to allow axis to the inards.

    2. Has anyone out there rebuilt one of these rearends? I've never done it myself, and I was planning on having someone else do it. But the further I got into it, the less complicated it looks. I was thinking about doing it myself. Even though I've never done it, I am very mechanically inclined. For a living I design and build factory automation, so I understand how to read meauring equipment, and I understand the need for exactness. I also have access to any measuring equipment and speciality tools that may be req'd. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is this harder than it looks? Is this something I should leave to a professional mechanic? Of course before I attempted anything, I would have to educate myself on the matter. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks for all the help,
    Brett

I bought (and used) the last NOS posi clutch rebuild kit Buick Farm had for our rears. Not sure if you can get them any place else. If you can, yes they are rebuildable. Not sure if the clutches are the same as other GM posi units.

I'm interested to find out if CARS's crush collars are correct, and if the collar your guy gets you is correct. Please let me know so I can add it to my info on my page. I recall trying Kantor, CARS, Year One and Buick World and came up empty for a crush collar. I could be wrong. I'm curious.

    Thanks.

I Just recieved the bearing kit to overhaul my 9 3/8" differntial from Ratech mfg. $110 delivered to my house. Four bearings cones and cups (well actually three cuz they forgot to send the small pinnion bearing:Dou: , they'll send it right away), all the shims, pinnion oil seal, pinnion nut, marking compound, and of course the crush collar (it's the right one.)

Except for the fact that they forgot to pack one of the bearings (which they'll fix), I have to say these people were incredibly knowledgable. His books had all the part numbers and descriptions. In addition, the bearings in the kit are Timken bearings, which are good quality bearings, unlike some off the other kits.

Just thought I'd post this as an FYI for anyone that's thinking of rebuilding their diff.
