When I was restoring my 65 Special dash I had this wild shower thought. Might a 71-72 Chevelle, tach for a sweep dash (non SS) fit in the Buick dash, 71-72 is important because the numbering is the same color as the 65 Buick. Well with a little modification it will fit almost perfectly, if it where just a tad smaller it would be perfect. I removed the clock from its case drilled a couple of small holes in the case, added some shims to set the depth so the new tach would match the speedometer, fuel gauge and warning lights depth. It worked out surprisingly well and is clearly visible when sitting in the drivers seat. Ive done some modifications and upgrades to the car but have made every effort to have the car look original or as original as possible. The bright amber LED light just inboard of the seven (7) at the five-thirty position is the check engine light for the LS engine, when it is not eliminated it is hardly visible.
That looks cool as hell! Good Job. I'm going to to look into doing this in my 67. Not that I'm wild about taking the dash apart again....
I think you could do it with out removing the dash. Also check the Nova Tach, it may be just a tad smaller. CJP69, Could you post a pix?
