One thing I always really appreciated was the BPG hiring off duty LEO's to watch the host hotel parking lots at night.
I couldn't imagine. ... I gutta tell ya , given the choice, I would probably sleep in my car with my rottweiler and Glock 19. Wouldn't be able to sleep otherwise. ...Jim
These are photos of the 3 cars I could find. I'm assuming they're most likely in some form of disassembly now......I hope not.
Nah they get put in Containers at the nearest port they have a connection at and off they go,..or that's my theory
Shawn, The host hotel didn't have security & two were stolen along with another that failed. A Suburban was taken along with a trailer & a car. Since then everyone chips in to pay for the security. The truck was found abandoned in a parking lot not to far away some time later. As far as I know the trailer was never recovered. The car wasn't either, BUT the engine & trans. were found. Funny the way it happened. A pickup truck was traveling down the highway & the signal light wasn't working. They got pulled over & noticed by LEO an engine & trans. in the rear. Ran the numbers & came back as stolen. It was said that after stealing stuff it was parked in an underground, as in earthen, parking garage. Don't know whatever happened to the arrested individuals, BUT it was said the car was parted out & was a blast to drive. AND I'm sure others meet their fate in containers.
Many people have a "declared value" with their insurance company. In some cases, maybe its not so bad. Perhaps your declared value is more than you could ever sell it for??
That would only matter, I assume, to someone that bought their car and didn't work on it or build it themselves. No amount of money could ever replace what I've got into a few of my cars. I've turned down much, much more than a couple are "worth", dollars wise, on several occasions.
Yeah, I've been offered CRAZY $$$ for my Riv. Some tell me I could ALWAYS build another, BUT it wouldn't be MY CAR I BOUGHT NEW!!!!! VIN 7KXXXXXXXXX.
Charlotte Motor Speedway has a car event in the Spring and Fall. Several years ago I recall some cars were also taken from a hotel lot during an event.
The dirt bags always hit the big bike rallies, too. Daytona, Sturgis, Myrtle Beach & Laconia always have motorcycles stolen. A friend of mine had his Fat Boy stolen at the Myrtle Beach Rally while him & his wife were eating in a restaurant.
Seems to happen every year at the Woodward Dream Cruise in/near Detroit. Mostly it is tow rigs and the trailer with the show car/truck in it. Several times a car/truck is stolen. Some will steal any thing that isn't in a safe and even then they some times steal the whole safe. Al
