    Is there a website where I can go to decipher the code on my firewall plate. I just bought my first Buick today..a 67 GS400 survivor. It has some great options like head rests, reclining pass. seat, tilt wheel and disc brakes. If there isn't a site to get this info, here are the numbers in case someone has the answers and would like to help!

    Good Morning:

    Those strange characters at the bottom resemble 67 Camaro option codes, wonder if they decode similarly.
    A 67 Camaro can be completely documented from these characters.
    Each # represents an option group and following letters designate the specific option on the 67 Camaro. This was for 67 only as well.
    Is this for Buicks as well? Does anyone have the decoding? Looks like more than a coincidence it is on a 67 model year GS

    thx

    Try Atlanta Buick Specialties web site, atlantabuick.com. They have charts that help ID and decode VIN #s, Interior trim codes, Interior Dye Codes, Carb #s, carb #s/IDs, Rear axles, positraction rear ends, lube charts, bolt torque specs etc. A lot of other good stuff too.
    Good Luck.

    Guys,
    Just found this post while I was looking for something else.
    John P. Allen is correct the codes at the bottom of the ID plate are Fisher Body Option codes. I am in the process of getting enough buildsheets/ID data plate information for 65-67 cars so I can figure these out.
    If anyone has this info and can list it along with the known options their car came with I might get somewhere. Any help with this would be appreciated.

    Hi Duane
    My codes are:
    WX 2ZGR 3B
    5Y
    The options on my car are: auto, console, buckets with pass. recliner and headrests, power windows, tilt wheel, ps, disc brakes, AM radio, rear speaker and tinted windshield. I have another 67 and I'll get those numbers and post them also.
    Thanks for taking on this project. :beer

    1966 also

    Duane and group:
    I am going to buy a 1966 GTO Tri Power 4 spd tomorrow. If I remember it has this set of #'s and letters as well. It is PHS documented and is sparingly equipped except the go fast options.
    I will post those codes as well when I get it home.
    As I mentioned you can document a 67 Camaro from these as it lists RS, SS and particular engine and trans, it is group 4. The first group is a one as it doesnt have the #1........ Then group 2 stands for 3 items and so on.
    I found the book. Here is the breakdown: the tag you have decodes this way if it was a Camaro.....
    W= Tinted Windshield only
    X= Power windows
    2Z= Turbo 400
    G= Console
    R= Rear Speaker
    3B= Rear Defroster
    5Y= Deluxe Seat Belts
    Is this accurate? This was for a 1967 Camaro.
    I posted the article below in a word doc to download.
    Thx

    JA,
    I agree with your decoding of Harvey's "Flint" Data plate. Some of the codes are the same as for the Camaro, Chevelle, etc., but some codes seem to be buick specific. Some codes also seem to be either deleted or changed for different production plants. I think the "R" on the end of Harvey's "Flint" trim code stands for a passenger recliner. I have another 67, that is optioned almost the same as Harvey's, with a passenger recliner from "Baltimore" and it has no such trim code, but has other accessory codes. It appears there is little info available for the Buick and Olds specific codes, the search continues.

    Harvey's car also came with a manual rear view mirror, as it had no code for the remote mirror.

    PS. JA, thanks again for the help with the 14" & 15" wheel articles.

    PSS. I am looking for a 66 buildsheet/Data plate info for a skylark/GS with a bench seat, seems I only have them for bucket seat cars.
    Anyone have one?

    U R Welcome

    Duane:
    U R Very welcome. I just saw his list of options and these coincide with the decoding from the Camaro codes except it lists no code for headrests and I dont see his listing of rear defrost.
    The article I posted is the only one I have seen on these codes in the many years of my Muscle Car following. 26 years to be exact since my first car was a 1971 442. Even the Camaro white book has no listings for these codes.
    My best friend has had his 1967 RS/SS 396 Camaro for 20 years and his decodes exactly to these.
    Has or does anyone know of any other listings of these codes.
    Duane, thank you for your hard research work, I as well others I am sure, appreciate it very much.
    Thx again

    Here is some info from a good Pontiac site. I put the link below. Wonder where they got this from? Their decoding is the same as the Camaro info.
    They say it is for 66/67 models.

    Accessory Codes

    If there are accessory codes on the data plate, these codes primarily identified equipment or options installed. Some codes only identify option and not specific equipment.
    The accessory codes are made up of a number (except 1) and followed by one or more letters. The number in front of the code identifies which group the accessory belongs to.
    5 groups make up the codes for example:
    (1st Group) W = tinted glass/windshield, etc.
    (2nd Group) L = 4-speed floor shift, etc.
    (3rd Group) B = rear window defogger, etc.
    (4th Group) F = remote mirror, etc.
    (5th Group) Y = custom seat belts (1966-1967), etc.

    JA,
    I found some other sites on the web by using Google and entering "Fisher Option Codes" There isn't much info out there, but I found some stuff including some Riviera codes. Some work for our cars, some don't.
    Most of the codes work for 67 cars, but quite a few of the 65-66 codes are no-shows and will need to be deduced by cross-referencing many buildsheets/ID plates. That's how the other codes were found. This is the same thing I went through when I started doing the 70 Production Order Body Final sheets. There was no info available for the Manufacturer codes, so I had to cross-reference the buildsheets. It took years to figure out, but once I had a start the other years got easier.
    I expect the same with this, but I will figure it out. It takes a lot for me to give up. All I need is a bunch of info from 65-67 cars.

    I now decode around 20 different buildsheets for 68-72 Skylark/GS's. Even did one the other day for a guy with a 70 Chevelle SS396 car. It would be nice to figure out the 64-67 cars, then I could do them all.

    Anytime Harvey, glad to help.
    Here is more on these codes from a 67 GTO site.

    Duane:
    Maybe this will add and or help to your recap and research.
    The link is at the bottom of this post.
    My GTO decodes to this as well. It is a Pontiac built car.

    As an example of the Five Group Accessory Code system, WX 2KZGTR 3N 4F 5Y on a GTO data plate from the Pontiac, MI plant indicates the following accessories (numbers mark the beginning of the next code group): tinted windshield (W), power windows (X), A/C (2K), 3-spd auto transmission (Z), console (G), rear-mounted power antenna (T), rear-seat speaker (R), reading lamps (3N), remote control mirror (4F), and deluxe front seat belts (5Y). The meanings of some Five Group Accessory codes are not yet known. As far as I know, no Pontiac factory literature exists to decode the accessory codes. These were determined from cars in the research study.

    Group 1
    D Power convertible top
    E Soft-ray tinted glass (all windows)
    O Two-tone Paint (Chrome separator strip)
    T Power seat - bucket, left seat only
    V Remote control deck lid release
    W Soft-ray tinted glass (windshield only)
    X Power windows
    Y Power seat - bench
    Group 2
    B 3-spd manual transmission floor
    E A/C, diff ducting
    G Console
    H Heater delete
    K A/C
    L 4-spd manual transmission
    R Rear seat speaker
    S Rear-mounted manual antenna
    T Rear-mounted power antenna
    U 8 track tape system
    V Verba-Phonic rear speaker
    W 2-spd auto transmission
    Z 3-spd auto transmission
    Group 3
    B Rear window defogger
    K Dome courtesy lamp
    N Roof rail reading lamps
    Group 4
    F Outside remote control mirror
    Group 5

    J Underhood light
    M Rear center seat belt
    P Luggage light (FRA & PON plants)
    Y Deluxe front seat belts
    Z Shoulder belts, front seat

    UPC Code System

    The following UPC codes are some common examples found on 1967 data plates of cars built at [Fremont (BF)].

    A31 Power windows
    B80 Chrome drip molding
    C08 Cordova roof cover
    C60 A/C
    M20 4spd manual transmission
    M40 3spd auto transmission
    U75 Rear-mounted power antenna
    U80 Rear seat speaker

    Pete,
    That is beautiful, it is a Body shop Inspection sheet. You can see the punched out initials of the inspectors that "OK'd and Bought the body from Fisher Body. I have several of these from 70-72 cars, but have never seen one for a 67. I would like to get a paper copy of that for my records. Is it possible for you to list the codes for the options that are hard to read? Thanks for posting the picture.

    Duane,

    If you send me an address, I will gladly send you a copy. I will also post all codes that I can read a little later. Any idea on how to remove the tar without damaging the paper? Figures that the back side is nice and clean.

    Pete,
    I have carefully pealed tar off buildsheets and stickers. It takes time but does work. If the tar oil has seeped into the paper then I don't know what to tell you. Here is my address;

    Thanks again.

    gasoline takes tar off of clothing. it may work for paper... though will soak into the paper.

    it would most likely make the paper transparent (ever find an oil soaked piece of paper? kinda like that)

    i'd only recommend it if its a dire need thing.
